Where do the boats go from OKW? I think it is to DTD but am not sure. We just booked for the end of April and have never stayed at OKW yet so I am so excited. Thanks

The boats at OKW run between there and DTD and also stop at SSR. It is a slow boat though, and only runs every hour. Bus transportation is VERY good from OKW to just about anywhere! The internal shuttle runs through the whole resort and then goes to DTD, so that is another option. The buses to the parks are VERY efficient.

The OKW boat runs hourly from 11:00am until 4:00pm and every 30 minutes from 4:00pm until 11:00pm. It is a very relaxing trip along the Trumbo canal and also makes a stop at SSR on each run. The trip takes about 20 minutes and stops at the marina next to Rainforest Cafe/Cap n' Jacks.

As Diane noted, the bus is another option. You can also make it to DD by walking- about 15-20 minutes.

Enjoy!

I liked the old boat better than the new one, but I LOVE to take the walking path!

We're not wild about the new boat, either, but it is a nice way to travel for a change from the buses. It is leisurely, though, so not for the time-pressured! ;)

I'm sure someone can give you the exact location of that walking path--it's great during the day, but I would NOT take it at night!!!

Having used the trail, I should remember the building number exactly, but I don't. I think it's building 52 (might be 54??) simply go to the end of the road, and off the turnaround by the pool you'll see the enterance to the walk way. It is a very nice walk!

The walkway begins behind building 55 at South Point. It crosses the canal and follows a paved pathway towards SSR. You will pass the waterway to PO, the Treehouses and then on to the practice greens near SSR. If you cross the golf cart bridge, the path leads to the SSR marina and on to SSR. If you walk past the practice greens, the walkway leads around the DD-West Side parking area to Cirque, DQ and HoB. It's about a 15 minute walk at a brisk pace to get from building 55 to Cirque.

The walkway is lighted from the Treehouse bridge to SSR, but not all the way from OKW. I would NOT suggest walking this trail in the dark as the pavement is uneven in places.

There used to be a fitness trail - with individual workout stations along the way, but that was removed several years ago. We've seen eagles, osprey and river otters while walking this path - a very enjoyable early-morning exercise.

Enjoy!

It has been a couple of years since our last stay at OKW. What is the "new boat" compared to the "old boat"? When we were there last, it was a pontoon boat. What is it now? :boat:

Why, because of the lack of lighting and unsure footing as Doc states or is there a more nefarious reason to not walk it?

Also, as you walk from DD toward OKW you'll see a sign just past the SSR turnoff that says the pathway is closed at dusk. So another reason not to walk it after dark is because it's officially closed after dark.

Ok, that's a good reason...but why is it closed at sundown?

The new boats, I think, are still a type of pontoon boat. But they are now partly financed through the DtD mechants. The seats are not nearly as comfortable. They hold more people per boat and are wheelchair compatible. The seating area for W/C is mid-ship near the driver. THe seating for ambulatory folks in in the rear and a "U" shape with a center backless bench seat. The aisle is narrow so you have to sort of sit sideways if you have average to long legs, and the backrest on the "U" seats is uncomfortable. If they would re-design the rear seating area with seats mare like a "park bench" I think it would be better.
