Can anyone point out the major differences in the transportation between the value resort hotels and the Downtown Disney hotels to me.

I think we would prefer to stay in Downtown Disney, as we can get a better rate for our room, the only question I have is the transportation issues.

My friend said,

"Check though about parking if you stay at another hotel. The reason is we waited 45 mintues for the shuttle to MGM (only one we ever had to wait for) and finally gave up and drove the 3 blocks to the park. We didn't have to pay since we were staying in the resort. All the other parks had shuttles come every 10 minutes or so, some more often."

I want it to be convenient to get to and from the parks, but I don't want to have to pay the extra money to stay at a resort. Can someone compare and contrast these for me. I was thinking of the Holiday Inn, Best Western, Etc.

The seven Hotel Plaza Boulevard properties (well, five or six right now - Holiday Inn is closed for refurbishment and I don't know if Hotel Royal Plaza is open yet) share a bus route. The MK bus stops at all five-to-seven hotels; the MGM bus picks up at all five-to-seven hotels, etc. Normal schedule is every half hour, with (unless it's changed) AK every hour and sharing a bus with BB.

Also, these buses drop you off in the middle of the offsite bus lot, not particularly convenient to the parks.

You can drive to Disney from these hotels. However, I am pretty sure that unless you are an AP holder you will have to pay the $8 parking. Remember that you only pay it once a day, so if you drive from MK to Epcot just show your receipt. You do get free parking with the Swan/Dolphin I think.
