we need transportation for 3 adults, 2 kids... what would be the cheapest option to port, then return to airport???

Rental car would be the cheapest.
We rented a car at the airport, stayed one night at AKL then drove to the port. The total cost of the rental car was $30 plus gas for a. . The port is one hour and 30 minute from WDW. We rented from Budget. Budget has a rental center not far from the port and they offer free shuttle van service to the ship. They took us and our luggage to the ship.
We booked another Budget rental car for our return from the port to MCO. Again budget picked us up for free at the ship and took us & all of our luggage to their rental office which is about a 10 minute ride from the ship. Then we got the same rate and paid $30 plus gas to get back to MCO.
It was an easy experience. And we plan to do it again next year.

BTW the drive to the port is easy. Its a straight shot for about 90% of the trip over to the coast. Make a right turn onto A1A which is where the Budget rental office is.

*snip*

It was an easy experience.

+1 :thumbsup2

Either rent a car at WDW (Car Car Center, Dolphin, DTD, etc) and drive directly or take DME back to MCO and pick up rental at airport.

Drop off City will be Cape Canaveral and most agencies do not charge extra for one-way in FL.

I found it easier to drop off luggage (and passengers) and cruiseport curbside, then drive to rental agency for solo return.
