Transgenders and bathrooms....

lol yep--I am well aware of such devices---they come in handy for roadside stops in parts of France and Italy where toilet seats are not commonly available. So, yet again, more reasons why the person's anatomy really doesn't NEED any certain restroom.

They pee on toilet seats in France and Italy? That's odd:rolleyes1

I'm feeling a bit feminine today, and I think I'll wander into the ladies room. I'm dressed, and look like a man.

Dollars to donuts say I wind up in the pokey.

I have one....and have had one for years. Called a Freshette. I got it for hiking in Norway, above the tree line. You simply could not use a tree if there are no trees. It was a good way to be reasonably discrete and still get the job done. Works great.

Well - I know in certain places, overnight backpackers are required to use a portable potty device. The place I'm thinking of is the Virgin River Narrows at Zion National Park. There's really no place to go that doesn't eventually flow directly in the river. Each backpacker is issued a bag that contains a diaper-like gel to lock in liquid and an odor neutralizer. However, it's supposed to be used for both solid and liquid waste.

Multi-day rock climbing comes with its own challenges.

Is this what it was like during the civil rights era? People throwing fits of how "dangerous" it is for "whites" and "coloreds" to share a bathroom?

My goodness... Please don't make this equivalent to the Civil Rights racial movement.

Try dealing without toilet seats. I've visited parts of Asia where squat toilets are still pretty common. I walked into a KFC restroom with only squat toilets, and just waited untill I got back to the hotel.

I don't see really where there was really any problem for this NC law to solve. However, now that it's come into law I can imagine people doing all sorts of unnecessary thing to "prove" something. I'd say "self-fulfilling" might be the operating word.

I frankly don't see why such a law was necessary. Laws again voyeurism and disturbing the peace already exist.

Worst bathroom ever was at a gas station in Bali. Only one...for both men and women, and it was horrendous. Just a hole in the ground, and to say it was unsanitary around said hole was, well, an understatement. LOL. And, of course, the handy "dip bucket" because there was no running water in the bathroom. Made me appreciate, very much, the western style toilets. And, grateful that I wasn't wearing sandals and that I had hand sanitizer in my bag.

Are you planning to sexually harass someone? Because that would be the only law that would get you thrown in the pokey.
Lol!!! No... But I was severely manhandled and threatened once for inadverdantly walking in the wrong door. I do believe there would be hell to pay if a man opted to intentionally use the ladies room.

And there are laws to address that - especially disturbing the peace. Every case is different.

This NC law certainly doesn't serve any legitimate purpose. It's more fear mongering than anything else.

Your opinion. Not mine. Neither one of us are alone in our opinions.

Okay... You haven't. That's a good thing. That doesn't mean others haven't, or you won't in the future.

There is no arguement here, other than the folks who preach tolerance don't tolerate other opinions.

MG

Ahh, the old you're intolerant because you don't tolerate my intolerance. When someone has to pull that out, they've lost the argument. It's like saying you have no real reasoning or justification for your stance.

No, it's you who created the classic straw man. Create a nonexistent situation that's easily defeated. Whether or not you have that opinion or are just taking a deliberately contrary opinion, I don't care. However, the argument that men simply walking into a women's room is just silly. There are laws that already deal with that, and making it illegal for a trans woman to use the women's room or a trans man to use the men's room is just silly.

It's not as if there weren't real issues with bathrooms such as peep cameras or anonymous hookups.

This question makes me wonder what trans people did all along,at Disney and all other places. I imagine they went in the bathroom they thought appropriate and no one noticed or cared. Now this is a huge issue...

Well, it's rather telling that NASCAR and the notoriously apolitical NC native Michael Jordan have spoken out against this law.

"Feeling a bit feminine" and identifying as the opposite sex are not the same thing. Obviously you do not understand what being transgendered is all about - and that is part of the problem in this country. It's not about straight men going in the women's bathroom. It's about feeling out of place, threatened, and harassed (not to mention physically threatened, etc) when allowed to use the bathroom of the gender you feel is yours. Being dressed like a man and entering the women's bathroom proves my point.

But it is the same thing - the transgender community is being threatened with these archaic style laws the same way blacks were. Do a google search on black, transgender to see how they are being treated.

Yes, it was no big deal, nothing horrid happened (except to the transgendered if they were called out on it - some have been murdered for being transgender) and then some nut job with power decides to go all 'righteous' about the whole thing, making the lives of the transgendered even more fraught with danger.
