Transfers Between Disneyland Property Hotels

Hi Disfriends!

I do not recall any WDW trip where I felt this indecisive, and I need some (more) advice from DL vets. We had to move our July DL trip to August, and we have had our heart set on staying on property, as this will most likely be our only visit to DL. We have a reservation from August 14-17 at the Disneyland Hotel. Our original trip in July had us staying at the DL Hotel in a standard view room, and when I changed our ressie to August, there were no more standard rooms available, so I booked the premium view room, which was the next cheapest DLH option for our timeframe. We are flying in on August 13, and after researching the Disboard threads and asking some questions, I currently have a room at the Springhill Suites Maingate booked for the evening of August 13, with the idea that we'll get up and uber to DL at the crack of dawn, check into DLH, and then hit the parks and get our room later in the day.

In the meantime, keep checking to see if any standard rooms at the DLH are available; my dream would be to pounce on a cancelled standard room view at DLH, and with the difference in the cost of the room, hopefully book the night of August 13 at the DLH too, and just have a standard room from August 13-17. I would love to cancel our Springhill Suite room and just check in to the DLH and be on property after our plane lands at dinnertime on the 13th.

So far, no standard rooms are available. Noodling around on the website, I found a room at PP for only about $200 more than what we are paying at the Springhill Suites. So, here are my questions:

1. What is the likelihood that a standard room at DLH will become available for my timeframe in August? Is my best bet to continue "stalking" the websites? I know there is no way to predict this, but I'm wondering if it is actually possible or just a fleeting dream? Any tips or tricks I should be employing when I stalk/check the website? Is there a greater likelihood 60 or 30 days out?

2. If I cancel my Springhill Suites room and book a night at PP for August 13 and then keep our current premium view room at DLH, what is involved in a room transfer to the DHL on the 14th? Do we just get up, check out of the PP and leave luggage with bell services and go to the park? How far apart are the DLH and PP? How does a transfer work, exactly? If it's as much of a pain as it would be from the Springhill Suites, then we'll just stay put, but I keep thinking that it's got to be a little easier if we're moving from one hotel to the other on DL property?

Any info or advice from wise DL folks would be fantastic! Thank you so much!

I know that they will move your luggage for you from one of their properties to another.

I can’t advise on the rest

@maleficent55 Thank you for the info!

I just called and spoke to a cast member and he had some interesting info. First, he said the DLH is totally sold out for our time there, as a result of a conference being held there at that time. Secondly, he said that while normally the PP and the DLH are very walkable as they are close together on property, with the upcoming construction of the new hotel, he wasn't so sure that it would be easy to walk our luggage between the two hotels to transfer. The CM said we could *ask* bell services to transfer our luggage between the two hotels, but he couldn't guarantee that they would.

Does anyone have any information about the impact of the construction of the new hotel and the ability to walk between PP and DLH?

No because it hasn’t started yet and won’t until after the end of June.

@DizneyMommy OK. That makes sense. We'll be there in August, so I'll just keep my eyes peeled on the Disboards for more information.

No one has a way of knowing quite yet, and honestly it will probably change day by day up until your trip. I can’t believe they wouldn’t be willing to help move your luggage. I would call again and talk to the concierge or ask for a manager. I would even mention that you know there will be construction and that may make it difficult to walk it over yourself so because of the inconvenience what can they do to help you. It is very walkable, they are very close together, and I don’t see the construction affecting that path myself honestly.

So this is super rudimentary but I think you’ll get the idea. You just have to walk across a parking lot to get from one to another (yellow line). The red area is the basic construction area.

I would so not pay $200 more for PPH for the night before! Spring Hill Suites is nice, Ubers/Lyfts are plentiful & the ride time in the Uber will be like 5 mins in the early morning. We love staying off-site to save a few bucks and then transferring on-site early in the morning. Hotels are quiet at that time so easy check-ins & since you’re dropping your bags at the hotel yourself you know they’ll be there whenever you want them.

@gottalovepluto You just made me feel so much better about our whole situation. I think I'll take your advice and stay put with the Spring Hill Suites and transferring to the DLH. We are planning on doing quick service meals for the duration of our trip, so I'm thinking I'll take the $200 we save and put it towards one special table service meal while we're there. Thank you!

@Iceman93 We just sort of liked the look of the DLH better than PP. The kids liked the way the pools looked better, and the CR is one of our absolute favorite resorts at WDW, and we liked that the DLH lobby and check in area looked a little like the CR. We also liked the fact that Walt had been in that hotel...this is probably our only trip to DL, so we wanted the DLH experience, I guess?
