Transferring Points

I am a new DVC member but I don't have an understanding of the transferring of points. I could see myself someday needing extra points to add to my own 200 points for a future stay so I am wondering how that would work and why members wouldn't rather deal with the transferring of points to another member at $10/point over renting to a non-member. Since it was mentioned that a transfer is a final transaction, it would seem that one member who needs extra points would know the DVC ropes and when they were wanting to vacation and this transaction would be very easy for the member with extra points to sell. Say I need an extra 35 points. I pay the member $350 and they call MS and make the transfer. I now have the 235 points to make my vacation stay and I do all the calling with MS, not the member who did the transfer. Is that correct?

On the other hand, if for some reason, I want to sell my points to use for a Disney Cruise, I would think it would be easier for me to transfer my 200 points to 1 or more current DVC members. They pay me the money, I make the call to MS to do the transfer, and then my part is done. No more dealing with MS or with the person who needs points. My job is done.

I figure I must be missing something important since the transfer of points to an existing member seems like the way to go. Perhaps I am not aware of the fact that there are not many members out there who feel they will always want to have more points for stays but don't have the money to purchase more points. Is there a market or not? I do see myself needing more points for future stays or having to stay 1 day less, etc. to make do with the points I currently own.

Sorry this is so long.

It is all a matter of supply and demand. I would prefer to transfer to a member, but there are not always members wanting points when you want to rent/transfer. In addition, there may be stipulations on the points you have. Some points, like reservation points, can not be transfer. Also borrowed points cause a problem to. Finally, members usually only want to rent a few points at a time to supplement what they have. The people with a lot of points to rent will be able to rent them in one or two transactions with renters, where if they tried to rent them to owners at 5, 10 or 25 points at a time, would take much longer and more hassle.

Question

If I am transferring points to another member, what info will I need to call MS with? Their name and ???

Once they are transferred, I no longer have to worry about a renter backing out, I think that is a big advantage of transferring compared to renting.

Thanks for any answers.
