On the Rent/Trade Board, I see a lot of offers from people to either rent out or transfer points into another member's account. Am I correct in remembering that you can only transfer points once in the life of a contract? Can you only transfer points out once but can have points transferred in more than once or do I have this backwards?

once you change a direction of transfer in or out that it stays that way for the rest of the year

but my question is, can you only transfer points once during the life of your contract. Say you own at OKW< can you only transfer out points one time to someone and/or have someone transfer points to you only one time?

If I rent out some points, could I transfer to several different members?

I am remembering something as being a "one-time" only option, and I thought it related to transfering points, but maybe not.

No, you are not correct. The rule was previously once in or out PER USE YEAR. It's now in or out but not both for the number of times you desire, per use year.

No, I think you are thinking of the one time banking beyond the deadline policy that has been rumored here.

So, I need help understanding. I am thinking of renting points for an upcoming trip at the end of May. My use year is April. If I rent points from someone, wanting them to be transferred into my account, can I:

1. only transfer points in once during the rest of my use year.
2. transfer points in my account multiple times if needed during my use year?
3. bank any unused tranferred points if not used.

I'm sure these have been covered a thousand times but I still need help.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice.

1. incorrect, fortunately for you.
w. Correct, make sure you tell them the correct use year.
3. Also correct, depending on banking deadlines.

:earseek: oops, Dean! You can't bank transferred points. There is only one movement on the points in a year--once they have been moved into an account, that's it. They must be used in the current use year. Maybe that was what you were thinking about, Rwe... Points can only be moved once, and a transfer is a move. Banking is also a move, so you can't do both in the same year on the same group of points.

You can rent your points out, and transfer them to the accounts of lots of other people. It's not my preferred way of doing things, though, because once you transfer to someone else's account, those points cease being your's and under your control. If you are transferring points out, get the money first.;)

Sorry, they made the change in 2000 where you can now bank transferred points. They did it at the same time as they changed the holding account booking window from 30-60 dayas. I've done it this year. They never did publicize it though. I don't think it ever was found in the member clubhouse, Guidebook or Vacation Magic.

By many resports they've also changed the one in or one out to one direction per use year but any number of transfers. I haven't checked it out directly myself but have relied on others than have done so.

When you receive transfered points, do they become "home" points for your contract or do they stay with the "home" of the original owner?

i.e. - I own BCV and OKW and get a transfer from an owner at VWL, are they BCV, OKW or VWL points, as far as the 11 month window?

Also if they can be banked, then which UY do they belong to? Mine are June and the original owner has Dec.

Thanks for your help.

BillPA, from what i understand this is what happens:

1. technically the rules say that if you receive VWL points, they will retain their home resort status of VWL. this means you should be able to book 11mos out at VWL.
2. unfortunately DVC's computers cannot handle that. so what happened in your case will depend on which contract you had the points transferred into. if you told MS to transfer into your OKW contract, then those VWL points have "become" OKW points. if you told MS to transfer into your BCV contract, then those VWL points have "become" BCV points.
this glitch can work for you or against you. if you were really looking for the VWL 11mo window, you will have to "fight" for MS to manually override what the system thinks.

Also if they can be banked, then which UY do they belong to? Mine are June and the original owner has Dec.
i don't know about this one, and i would actually be very interested in finding out the answer.
try asking MS (although transfers happen so rarely that most MS agents are not very familiar with transfer rules, so you may have to call back a few times or ask for a manager to get the "right" answer).

good luck.

Thanks, that is what I thought would happen. I'll see if MS can figure out the banking question. You would think that after being a member for more than 10 years, I would know the answer.

They will stay the use year of the original owner. This they have the ability to track. It will be noted on any member statements that you request and will be listed under whatever contract you have them moved into.

HBC, or anyone else who knows:

so, using BillPA's example, if he has a Jun UY, and he got some Dec UY points.
does this mean that even though his banking deadlines are 11/30, 2/28 + 3/31...
for those Dec UY points, his banking deadlines would be later (5/31, 8/31 + 9/30)?

also, how do they determine what your total # of points is in terms of banking deadlines.

having some random other points transferred into your acct changes the # of points total you have.

so let's say you got 100 points transferred in. they are different UY and have a different banking deadline.

okay, i just explained this question horribly, but if anyone understands what i'm trying to ask... and knows the answer... please post a reply. thanks.
