I'm so confused over the whole point transfer transaction--can someone help? I"m planning on transferring points from another owner with a use year of Feb; they expire Feb 2010. We've used all our 2009 points and most of our 2010 points. Does that mean we're not in the same use year, since his points are 2009 points and we're already using our 2010 points, and he can't transfer points to me?

No it doesnt matter if you have used up all of your 2009 UY points. If you are presently in your 2009 Use Year ( I don't know what your UY month is ) a member may transfer points to you from their 2009 Use Year, which is that member's CURRENT Use Year points. Also, even if you are not in your 2009 UY as of yet ( if your UY month is June, Aug, Sept, Oct or Dec ) MS has been known to allow the transfer providing you are not utilizing those transferred points for a reservation with a check-in date before your 2009 UY begins.

also btw, February UY points will expire on
January 31 2010 and you may bank those points tranferred to you by
September 30 2009 but they will still keep their Home Resort and Use Year <month> so if you did bank the transferred points to 2010 UY they are valid Feb 1 2010 - Jan 31 2011 ( banking transferred points will not make them morph into points from your Home Resort or change the UY month to what your points have ).

Good luck :goodvibes

Thanks! I have a February use year also, so I'm in 2009 now. This has been amazingly confusing to me!

As long as you are currently in the same UY as the other membership that you are going to transfer from/to then it can be done.

I have two memberships with two different UYs. So, essentially, I have to be presently in both UYs in order to do any transfers.

OK. let me see if I'm understanding this: if my use year is February and the person I'm transferring from's use year is October, I couldn't transfer their points to my account until October, because we wouldn't be in the same use year until then.
Since his use year is March and mine is February, and this is May, we should have no problem transferring. It doesn't matter that I've already used all my points for this year.

Correct?

That is my understanding.

I have had the opposite experience with having to be in the same use year. While it took going to a supervisor there was no problem with transferring in a 2008 UY points when I was in my 2009 UY. Also was told that I could transfer in 2010 UY points as long as they could be used to make a reservation (obviously without borrowing) at the time of transfer.

Tranfering points is one area where MS first level personel are not well trained since it is not detailed in their "guidelines"
