I have a 35pt April UY contract at BWV and a 100pt Sept UY contract also at BWV. Can I transfer my April 09 points over to my Sept 09 contract? I know that banked or borrowed pts cannot be transferred, but anything else I should know? Also do I get 1 transfer per year PER contract, or 1 per year period?

One transfer per member (or membership) per UY. Just remember that the points transferred still retain their original UY.

Would I qualify for 2 transfers since I have 2 totally different memberships?
So if I transferred my April 09 pts to my Sept UY contract, I would need to use those pts up by March 31, 2010?:confused3

If you were to transfer points between two contracts, that would use all available transfers for both contracts. You are limited to one transfer per master contract either in or out.

Since transferred points retain their original UY and home resort, I don't see why you would want to transfer them to yourself? There is nothing to gain..

There could be something to gain, say the member wants to make a reservation that takes 135 points, or 5 nights at 27 points. She could only reserve 3 nights from her 100 points contract, leaving a balance of 19 points in that contract, and a balance of 54 points for the reservation. She could not reserve the last two night with her 35 point contract, and they cant be combined without a transfer. Basically, she could only reserve 4 nights of her 5 night vacation without borrowing from the next use year or transferring between contracts. One reason why multiple use years doesn't work for everyone, since points from different contracts can't be used to reserve a single night.

I see what you are saying now Chuck. I have always just gone ahead and borrowed without giving it a second thought, lol. Never have the problem of any points left hanging around in a contract either. Even with my passel of points, I feel like I am always running in arrears, LOL!

Well I was thinking that since they are both same home resort BWV, that I could combine the small contract with the bigger one. I do not have a master contract. I have 2 totally seperate membership numbers.

Yes! This is exactly the situation I am running into with my August trip. I am 4 pts short of completing a 6 night stay at BCV and have to change resorts for 1 night. I was thinking for next year how can I alleviate some of the aggrivation. Now that I have had my DVC for 6 mos, I see the err of my ways in buying that 2nd contract with different UY. :rolleyes1 If I could do it over, I would have just added the 100 pts on with Disney directly. Too late for that now and I need to make the best of things and trying to see what I can do for future.

You could sell your 35 point contract and purchase an add-on, either through Disney or resale with the same use year as your 100 point contract. If you purchase resale, be sure that the closing company lets DVC know that you want the new resale combined under the same membership number as your 100 point contract. Member Accounting will do that, but you have to let them know before closing, or else you'd wind up with two membership numbers again.

I just went through this. I was selling a 100 point Boardwalk contract and buying the same in OKW because I wanted all OKW points all with the same UY. In order to clear the Boardwalk contract to sell (or lose the points for that year) I either had to transfer to another contract that I own or use the points remaining. This was the rub: all the contracts I own have the same UY, thus I only have ONE membership number. You can transfer points from one contract to another that you own as long as they have different membership numbers (different UY). MS was not going to allow me to do it because they said the system had no way to make the transfer--you have to transfer from one membership number to another AND THE NUMBERS MUST BE DIFFERENT! I got my guide involved who did get it Ok'd after a few weeks--but by that time I just made a reservation to use the points up next month.

Chuck: Can you clarify something? I am adding a resale OKW contract with the same UY as all my other contracts. I have one membership number. Can I assume once this resale contract is added to my account it will be under my existing membership number (since all the contracts, including the new one, have the same UY), or do I have to do something before it closes to insure all my contracts are under my existing membership number. I do not want another memberhsip number. Any help appreciated.

Chuck, Please explain why points from different contracts can't be used to to reserve a single night? I have 4 different Membership numbers. I don't recall ever reading this, nor has a guide ever said this to me.

Contact your resale agent and/or Member Administration before the contract goes to closing. They have to be made aware that you have an existing membership number, and want the new resale under that number.

With 4 different membership numbers, they are four separate memberships. Points for reservations are debited out of a single membership number. Just like if 4 separate members were making a reservation, their points could not be combined for any one night. Each is a separate account. Surely you didn't buy those 4 contracts through Disney, as they would have had the same membership number and use year.

No, I bought 2 through Disney, they are combined, the rest were from resale. It is a total of 5 contracts. I did not know I could have called Disney to have them combined, some of the resales are the same UY. It's can get confusing at times. I just make sure I use all the points every year, or bank them and use them all the next.

Chuck you seem to have a lot of knowledge in this area.:wizard: Thank Goodness someone does!!!!!
I have 2 contracts 1 Dec UY and one Feb UY. I tried to transfer points from my Feb into my Dec but MS says I cannot because Feb is currently on 08 UY and Dec is still in 07 UY. I thought that since the points retain their org use year it does not matter. Was MS incorrect? I was trying to use the points for an Aug 08 stay

Thanks for any and all help available:hug:

I think MS is correct. You can't transfer Dec 07 points into your Feb UY becuase your Feb 07 UY is past. You could transfer Dec 08 UY into Feb 08 UY, but those point could NOT be used for an Aug 08 reservation because you can't borrow transferred points.

Your answer is to transfer your Feb 08 points into your Dec 08 UY. Those points will retain their original UY and month, so an Aug 08 reservation will still use current Feb 08 UY points. This is how it should work, but check with MS before you transfer.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

Hey Suzanne
Does that mean I have to borrow my Feb points back to use for Aug?
and does that mean I have used up my transfer for both 08 and09?
It is so confusing when mixing use year and calendar year.

SuzanneSLO is correct, you can only trsnfer to the same "use year" regardless of month, 2007 can only be transferred to 2007, and 2008 to 2008. Given the limit of one transfer in or out, not both, per use year, it really put a damper on people that have use months so far apart, like Feb and December. You could have transferred after December 1, 2007 and before Feb 1, 2008, but then you'd have been beyond your banking window and they may not have allowed you to bank those Dec points on your Feb account.

It is just too complicated, that is why, for most people, including myself, I recommend having only one use year month.

Thanks All for your replies. I did not know how complicated this would be. I just saw a small resale contract and jumped on it. Now I may end up selling and waiting for a Dec contract. as it is much to stressful to try to use the points(it is only 30 ) since I paid my dues for this year I will try to use it up and possibly sell next year
Thanks for all the help
Mary Ellen

:headache: Let this be a lesson and a warning to all considering adding on points
