I am looking to sell one of my contracts. I was going to transfer some of the points before selling. The broker stated that the rules have changed and now if you transfer points to another member or account and sell the contract that the points were tied to, the transferred points are being cancelled. Can they really do this? It sounds crazy to me and not something they could do.

Once points leave your membership and are in some one else’s membership, those points can not be returned to your membership.

So I do not think the broker has correct information.

That is what I was thinking as well. He said he had a customer learn the hard way. Sounds weird to me.

Reminder that a link to the broker should be posted if you want to share that info.

Broker might also be confused. They might be experts on selling DVC, but not experts on using DVC and the very specific DVC terms. The word "transferring" might be being applied loosely. In DVC terms it is a very specific act of the points leaving your contract and going to another. They are gone. It is a one time only transaction and it is completed immediately. In general terms one could view a reservation made for a third party as "transferring" points to that third party. While in DVC terms, we would never call that "transferring", we would call the renting points and having an active reservation.

Giving the broker the benefit of the doubt, maybe they thought you meant selling a reservation or "renting" points. To be fair, these terms are confusing.
