transferring in points... UY... allocation... & more???

I am trying to plan a family get together... and we need more points. My brain cannot wrap around this transfer option for booking. I need the 11 month window because it will be a popular time of year. Unfortunately, I want to understand it all... so down the road... if I were to get another need... I would know my options or lack of options.

I'll use my AK home points...
when I pay for points transferred to me... what do I need to make sure of?
1. AK resort points

2. points have to have the correct year associated with that reservation time...
ie Dec 2009 reservations any 2009 points would work
April 2010 reservation May-Dec 2009 Jan-Apr 2010 use year would work
June 2010 reservation July-Dec 2009 Jan-Jun 2010 use years would work
October 2010 reservation Nov-Dec 2009 Jan-Oct 2010 use years would work
(I know some months don't really have UY but to simplify some... used them all)

3. Get number of points needed right the first time, only 1 transfer per membership number per year...
(and I guess that is based on year of reservation on my home UY? SeptUY april2010 reservation uses my 2009 option?)

4. points can be reallocated...
ie book my points that are banked... book my current year points... book MY borrowed next year points. THEN if I get transfer of points... MS can reallocate those to only my current year points... so I could bank those if I wanted... so I wouldn't be pointless myself the next year!

5. transferred points cannot be banked... so plan to reserve them and use them in the appropriate time.

6. ANYTHING else to consider?

I've tried to study this on the board... but it just seems so complicated. We enjoy traveling with friends and family... and that makes complicated... even more complicated!!! Gosh... the price you pay for fun!

Your number 5 is incorrect. Banked points can not be transferred, but transferred points can be banked.

Yes, in order to make a reservation at AKV 11 months ahead, you will need to use AKV points.

Yes, you will need to have 2009 points from the other member's account transferred into your 2009 Use Year. The month does not matter, but the year itself does. 2009 into 2009, 2010 into 2010, etc.

Yes, only one transfer is allowed per Use Year (per membership number)

This is a little trickier. If you can, get the transfer before making the reservation and use those Home Resort points to make the reservation. There could be an issue trying to reallocate your original reservation with the transferred points since they might insist on cancelling the reservation and rebooking in order to do so. I can't see any benefit in such a reallocation anyway, since the transferred points can be banked if you won't use them.

No, transferred points can be banked. If you have points transferred now into your 2008 Use Year, they could still be banked for use in your 2009 Use Year.

I think you've covered the basics of this. Just realize that the transferred points will NOT show up in your online account. Transfers are basically a manual transaction and will require a little more time and patience since MS must manipulate those points differently from points from your own contract.
