Transfering shows from DVR to Computer or DVDs

Can anyone tell me how to get shows off the DVR & saved to a hard drive or DVDs? We are switching cable companies & I have a bunch of shows on the DVR that I don't want to lose! Including the Disney behind the scenes Christmas special!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We have satellite and we have a DVD recorder hooked up to our TV & satellite receiver (with DVR). When we want to burn shows or movies to DVD, the DVD recorder is set up to a different input (just like a DVD player or video game console) ... and the satellite programming plays over it too. So once the programming pops up on the input for the DVD recorder, just start playing the shows or movies you want (with a blank DVD in the recoder of course), hit record, and repeat as many times as needed.

A couple of years ago we purchased a DVD player/recorder from Toshiba that looks kind of like this one. We just burn it in real time as it plays from the DVR on TV. Not very quick or elegant, but gets the job done.

You can get a Dazzle DVD Recorder conenct it to the DVR and then the other end to your PC and burn it (real time) to the computer. then you can burn it to a dvd or cd.

This is what I am doing. It is not fast and you have to pay attention but it works.
