My family of 8 is heading to Universal in a few weeks. It is simply too expensive to stay at the onsite hotels, because I would have to get two rooms. I have reserved one room for one day, howevever, thinking that 2 days of FOTL is worth it. With one room I only get 5 keys though. my two questions are :

1) is it worth $180 to get 5 FOTL keys for 2 days?

2) Is there any reason I can't allow my kids or wife to use the keys interchangeably? I.e. those who have used the keys, when they scan them in, do they show detailed information about the person, like age etc?

I need to know if its worth it soon in order to cancel the room if its not
Thanks in advance.

1. It is definitely worth $180.

2. The reason is that if everyone did this it would eventually overload the system and make the waits longer for those of us who are really paying for the perk.

Just my .02.

The kids names and ages as well as your name and your wife's name will be on their keys. This is to try to discourage key swapping. Depending on when you go, it may not be necessary to have FOTL.

It is possible to interchange, but you are risking it. All the cards do have names and are assigned by adult/child.

It is soooooooooooo worth it!!!

I appreciate the info. This board is amazing! I understand that the keys are assigned to a person ( I had to give names and ages to the hotel), but when you say the name is on the key, is it physically printed there, or does the scanner pick it up?
To address the concern of No!!'s mom and to ease the minds of others concerned that I have concocted a scam, I am trying to be creative without being devious. Of the 8 of us going, 2 are babies and will not go on very many rides. When they do, I would like them to go with a parent and siblings. My wife and I can probably do the baby swap and so I don't anticipate needing a key for both of us, though there may be instances it would be nice. If any of you have suggestions about how else to maximize the passes under the situation described, I welcome your comments.

The name and age are physically printed on the card by a machine along with the date of check-in and check-out as well as some long number. This is what DS's card from January says,

01/26/04 To 01/28/04 A*
Last Name, JOEL 15 YRS
11020346...........

Hi, YES the names and ages are actually on the card. AND upon my experience they DO check occassionally. I would NOT risk swapping them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it worth it though to stay onsite.................. without question!!! It was AWESOME!!! and so worth it, you won't believe it.

As far as fotl, there are other options avail. to the rest of your party, you can buy the books, or use your ticket to get the ex. passes from the machine....... we did this on the day my mom & dad come over, and since we had the fotl room key, we just rode with them at thier designated time, therefore getting to ride together.

Again, I wouldn't risk swapping your key..... I'd hate to get "caught"!!!

Just looked at my RPR key card. Name is on there, age is not, but it could be stored in the magnetic strip.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but my 10 year old nephew used my 2 year old's card a couple times. He could not use it all day as the 2 year old was riding rides most of the time.

In a couple of weeks, it will be spring break, and yes fotl will be welllllll worth it.

The adult's card has no age. Does your son's card have no age either?

I looked at my old room keys and they only have my name. My MR. on the HRH has "$$" by it. Does that mean I'm rich? :)

I wouldn't risk swapping keys. I know that they can ask for another form of ID to check. Then if you're using old keys, you might get them taken away.

Is this something new? My son and I never had ages on the cards in our Portofino and RPR cards last year.

We'd never had ages on until this year. My card doesn't have my age but has my last name, then first name, then Mrs.

If you and your wife attempt to go through the line together and there are six of you plus two babies - and you only have 5 FOTL keys - one person will not get to go through. Every person has to have a FOTL key to pass on through the line to eventually wind up at the boarding area. Say it's Dueling Dragons - there comes a point that you must show your FOTL pass and then you keep going a long way (not a long line - just a ways to keep walking) to get to the boarding area. Only 5 of you would get to keep going since one would have no FOTL pass. So somebody's gonna be sitting on a bench and that may be how you've planned it. Just making a point so you'll know that's how it works.

A simple solution would be for one adult to remain outside the ride with the babies while they are not riding while the other 5 members of your party use FOTL and the room keys.

When all 8 of you wish to ride, get Express Passes for the additional 3 and go thru the Express Entrance together. That way, there would be no need to swap or transfer the room keys between you and no risk of being caught doing something that may not be within the rules.
