I was doing a little cleaning and just came across our wedding video, since we don't have a VCR anymore, I'm thinking I should transfer the videos to DVD. I quick google tells me that I have to mail them to places. Do you think like Walgreens or CVS does this? I remember years ago, we put a bunch of our 8mm and photos on Video for DM and DDad's 25th anniversary, we did that at a mom and pop rental store. Since those are a dinosaur now, I don't know where to turn.

You've got to be kidding me (insert ROFL similie here). I have no idea what that thing is you just sent. LOL

I think I'm a techie when I log on to my computer. Thats about as good as it gets .

No, really! It is EASY! :) And probably cheaper in the long run.

You can find someone to do this in the phone book. Look up "video transfer".... but you may be shocked at how much they charge.

EDIT, well actually I just looked on the web... prices have come WAY down. I remember when people charged upwards pf $25 per tape..... Good luck!

See if you know someone with a DVD Player/Burner. I'm actually in the process as I type this of transferring a movie from a VHS tape to DVD for a friend. (great for the hard-to-find only available on VHS movies!) Reasonably easy to do - just takes time.

That's another option. I have a stand alone DVD burner. All I need to do is plug the camera or VHS into the DVD burner... hit play on that, and record on the burner.... Very simple as well.

Thanks, I'll do that.

The camera shops around here do it, but it is really expensive. For Christmas I received a DVD player/burner with a VHS as well and I can play the tape while I burn to DVD. I can also hook up my video camera and burn those home videos to DVD. Needless to say we have been watching a lot of home movies!

I have a bunch of VHS tapes in my sock drawer I need made into DVD

I would looooove to rid my movie closet of VHS's for good. Can you burn commercial VHS movies to a DVD? Or does it only work on homemade VHS tapes?

I do it all the time! Especially, as I said, with the very hard-to-find older movies that are only on VHS. (right now I'm copying "Out on a Limb" which isn't available on DVD in the US)

Well, it can be done... Macrovision copyright protection can be an obstacle.. so, all I will say is..... any obstacle can be overcome with the right "tools". :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

BTW, IMO, if you own the VHS, you should be allowed to make a DVD back up if you choose.

I love my DVD recorder. For those that fear they're not techie enough, if you can use a VCR it won't take much more to "learn" a DVD recorder. It's extremely similar, with just a few more onscreen options. You can hook the VCR into the DVD recorder and go at it!

Plus they're getting pretty cheap. They started at over $1000, but you can get one for $100 now if you catch the right sales. And blank DVDs can be bought so cheap - you can get spindles of 100 for $20 or less. If you have a number of videos to transfer, even buying the equipment can save you a lot of money over having someone do it.

My husband did all of ours and they came out great. It didn't look that hard to do, but I'd never attempt it by myself!

Do you have an idea as to how expensive? I will call Ritz Camera/Wolf Camera tomorrow. I just want to do our Wedding video. So I guess that it really kinda doesn't matter how much - within reason.

I called Ritz... I am at work with nothing to do.... $30 for every 2 hours with a 2 hour minumum.

Can you supply step by step directions on to do this. I have a DVD Recorder and VCR. I love know how to do this. People been asking do this for the longest time. i thank it's time learn how to do it.

i work at cvs and we do vhs to dvd transfers but... you have to send it out, it takes 2 weeks, and its 40 dollars for 2 hours then additional who knows what after the first dvd. i have never had a customer have a problem with this service, but i would personally have a VERY hard time sending away my home movies! i will wait to get a dvd burner, but for someone who is not as paranoid as i.. like i said, i have sent out many of these orders for customers with no problems at all.

I bought a Panasonic DVD recorder that transfers VCR to DVD and I love it. You can also record from TV to DVD. You can get one for about $200.

I highly recommend their recorders. It's easy to use.

Basically you wire them together, hit play on the VCR, and Record on the recorder.... when done, "FINALIZE" per your recorder's manual. If you don't FINALIZE, it most likely will not play on most OTHER DVD players. :thumbsup2
