Transfer Points between UYs

I currently have SSR June UY. I have an offer to purchase some additional points for SSR August UY which I was told would go into a different account. I was told that I can transfer points between the two accounts so I can make a reservation under one account. Has anyone done that? How does it work? Thanks.

It doesn't work very well. Stick with one membership and UY if you can.

Are you going to have two memberships or two contracts under the same membership.
The points will always retain their own use year.

I purchased my original points directly from DVD. The new points are being purchased through a broker so I was told I would have two membership numbers.

one of the memberships has three contracts

To complete a reservation a cm will generally book so many nights as whole nights from one membership as you have requested and use the second membership to complete the booking and link the two parts of the reservation.
This avoids transfers

I was told that they cannot book a partial night under a membership and that if would be better to transfer the points and combine them so that wouldn't be a problem. Is it really difficult to transfer? I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

that is true they cannot book a partial night but I have found it rare to need this in 10years
you can transfer once once per year in and once per year out .

If you purchased the same UY and titled the new contract the same as your original, both contracts will be under one membership and will show up under one account online.

In my experience transferring points get lost, don't show up online, can't be see correctly by MS, and a lot of MS Advisor's don't know what to do with transfers.

We transfered one time and it took a couple of weeks to fix our account and it caused problems when we tried to book a room using the transfered points because they showed up under both UY's. A knowledgeable manager finely tried to book our room but the inventory was gone because they took so long.

IMO it just isn't worth the trouble.

Unfortunately that's not an option. Why is it difficult to transfer?
It's not that it's difficult to do, but there are restrictions on how often you can do it. For each contract, you are permitted one transfer per use year (either a transfer in or a transfer out). There are also more things to keep track of when you have two membership numbers. The points will retain their home resort and use year after the transfer. You can bank transferred points, but you can't transfer banked or borrowed points. Two different use years also means two different banking deadlines.

The only reason the contract will be under two different membership numbers is because the use years don't match. If the resale contract you buy matches your existing use year, it will be put under your same membership number -- even if it isn't the same resort. You'd be much better off to ask the broker to find you a similar deal on a contract that matches your use year. Unless you're getting a really, really, really great deal, I'd recommend you wait until you find a contract with a June use year. As others have said, it just isn't worth the hassle.

It's workable but I'd wait on a better contract in your UY, esp for SSR.

I have most of my points in a Sept UY. Then I have a small 50 point Dec UY membership. When I want to use my 50 points, I usually transfer them. But this year we are looking at going in Oct which is in my Sept 2012 UY and my Dec 2011 UY. So I might just have to add a night to our Jan reservation to use the Dec 2011 points. If I bank the Dec 2011 points, I won't be able to transfer them. So I'd have to use the Dec 2011 points on one of my two reservations. I'll probably work it out, but who knows.

It's just a little more complicated.

If I bank the Dec 2011 points, I won't be able to transfer them. So I'd have to use the Dec 2011 points on one of my two reservations.
That's not necessarily so. I don't think I'd bank and count on it without confirmation from DVC, but often they'll allow you to transfer if needed to complete a given night even if banked or borrowed. If you can plan around without this option, that's best, but if you get stuck, always ask.

Unless you have a specific reason for wanting two use years or two separate memberships, I would recommend cancelling the resale purchase (assuming you are within the legal time frame to rescind) and wait for a June UY contrat.

Thanks everyone. I had not yet signed anything so I told the broker that I am going to wait for a June UY. Just so I understand correctly if I get a June UY, even at a different resort, I won't need to transfer points and they will be in one membership. Is that correct?

The UY needs to be the same and you have to title the new contract exactly the same as the first contract.

You need to make sure that the broker, title company and Disney knows that the new contract is a add-on to your original.

Thank you so much. I'm so glad I came on here before buying. Hopefully I will be able to find the number of points I want with a June UY.

Is June the best UY for your vacation timing? If not think about buying the correct UY and selling your June contract. Several small contracts are usually better then one large one.

You are correct, the same use year would, for all practical purposes be treated as a single membership...with the following exceptions:

1) Points purchased resale are not allowed to be used for trading into any non-DVC Disney operated venue..no cruises, no WDW resorts, no Adv. by Disney. They can be used for RCI and a few other non-Disney trades.

2) If the ponts are purchased for a different resort than you already own, each resort would retain its respective 11/7 booking window. So, for instance, if you currently own SSR and your add-on is at OKW, the SSR points can only be used to book SSR at 11 months, and OKW could only use OKW points at 11 months. Points can be mixed for any resort at 7 months.

I want to emphasize these points. Title EXACTLY and let all parties know including DVC, the broker and the title company. I'd put you DVC membership info in the contract and you should contact member admin yourself to have them be on the lookout to hook them up as they will not fix it after the fact it appears.
