Transfer Points between UYs

For each contract, you are permitted one transfer per use year (either a transfer in or a transfer out). There are also more things to keep track of when you have two membership numbers. The points will retain their home resort and use year after the transfer. You can bank transferred points, but you can't transfer banked or borrowed points.

I'm just about to pickup another contact with a different UY (SEPT) than my other 3 contracts (which are all DEC). Is there any reason that anyone can think of that I shouldn't just transfer the entire amount of the smaller SEPT contract to the larger DEC contract each year. And then it would be the same as if everything was under the one membership number?

Thanks

Having more than one UY and transferring will open up a can of worms, trust me. We transfered one time and our points were screwed up for over two weeks. The problems continued until the transfered points were use up and several people at Disney were involved. They won't admit it but they are not equipped to handle transfers and their system does not display the points correctly.

When you transfer points from one contract to another, they will show up as gone from the one, but will not show up in the new account. They keep UY and resort, so you don't want to accidently lose them because you think of them as Dec UY when they are really Sept UY.

We ended up buying our BWV points with a Dec UY even though we have a June UY for BLT.

The only reason we did this is because we bought 150 BWV points which is more than enough to book the way we want without having to use the BLT points with them. This way, I don't have to worry about transferring points.

If you are going with a different UY, I would only recommend it if you are buying enough so transferring doesn't have to happen.

And, as already mentioned, once transferred, you won't see them any more so it will be much harder to keep track of so I would probably only do the transferring when I needed them for a specific vacation.

Remember one thing about purchasing through a broker. If I remember right under the new DVC rules if you don't buy from DVC I believe the only thing you can do is use your points at DVC.

So if you plan on using your resale purchase for anything else I would make sure you verify what you are now allowed to do with those points.

Call your sales agent at DVC before you purchase any resale.

There are restrictions, but they're not quite as sweeping as this. Members who buy resale contracts do still have some options.

Resale contracts submitted to Disney on or after March 21, 2011 may not be used for the Disney Collection, the Adventurer Collection, or the Concierge Collection. They are still valid for stays at all DVC Resorts and for trading via the World Passport Collection (RCI and Buena Vista Trading Company).

Also, members who have only contracts that fall into this category have recently been told that they are not eligible to participate in the 2012 Member Cruise, even if they want to pay cash for their cruise.

Resale contracts that were submitted to Disney on or before March 20, 2011 are currently afforded all the rights and priviledges of contracts purchased directly from Disney.
