Did my first ever Disney cruise last year and it was amazing and I am now hooked!! I am looking at possibly doing the transatlantic cruise as the Dream comes from the States to the UK for the summer season, has anyone done this? Would love your opinions, thank you

Right now, it is the Magic that cruises to Europe every summer. We just completed the transatlantic in May. It was the best cruise ever. The ocean was calm the entire crossing, though it was a bit foggy for a few days. I plan to book another one in the next couple years.

We have done 4 Transatlantic crossings with DCL (including the one earlier this year) and are scheduled on the one in May of next year. They are very relaxing. There are tons of activities going on around the ship but there is also a ton of time to just relax. If one of the things you loved on your first cruise were the sea days, you will probably love the Transatlantic. Now if you are looking for a sunny warm vacation, this probably isn't the crossing for you with the itinerary they had this year and for next year which go across the North Atlantic. It was very foggy for quite a bit of the crossing this year and personally expecting similar weather next year. But having that long on the ship and that many sea days I think is fun because you really have the time to get to know the crew and your fellow passengers.

DSCN0960.JPG We were also just on the May transatlantic and loved it. We have done a ton of DCL cruises and this 2 weeks transatlantic was one of the best!!!

As mentioned on TA's the water can be rough or the weather not 100% sunny but we knew that going in and were pleasantly surprised on how calm and good the weather was overall...knowing next year it could be horrible weather. Hit or miss. I love the sea days on the TA. We had 6 straight sea days and I enjoyed every one of them!!

The Magic is the ship that does the TA's currently and I would expect for the next few seasons. Dream and Fantasy are obligated to Port Canaveral for a bit longer.

The pic above it was about 60 degrees out and sunny (middle of the Atlantic)

I have done two transatlantic Disney cruises (2010 and 2014) and they are absolutely my favorite cruises so far. I enjoy the fact that you really get to know the crew and other passengers. You also get so accomplish so much on the ship and even have time to rest and do nothing if you choose. I also enjoy watching all the various shows, acts, movies, character meets, etc, etc...

TA's are the best! I'm on number 5 this year! As others have said currently it is the Magic that cruises over to Europe. Its a lovely trip. I've only done the Caribbean ones but this year they did a Northern EBTA which was a change to the norm and went via New York. They are a lot more relaxing than a normal cruise on Disney I find as they are longer and you have more sea days (which are the best thing honestly). They also tend to be cheaper cruises because they go from one port to another. I am doing the WBTA this year for example and its going from Barcelona to Miami. Sea days they have loads of activities on and you get to know the crew better as you spend longer with them. Its a completely different experience to the shorter cruises!

Those are my favorite pictures of the Atlantic during our 2013 DCL EBTA! may 23, 2013. We did not have choppy until we approached Fuschal and then Gibraltar, but we love TA cruises. Have one planned for next year.

DH did find the 23 hour days hard to adjust to.

the bad thing is that you have to pay the airfare for the one way ticket overseas and endure the 10 hour or so flight. :sad1:

Thanks so much everyone I was pretty set on this and now I am 100% sure this is my next cruise

We did the EBTA this year and loved it. Due to the itinerary reschedule we had 6 sea days in a row. There were a few people I overheard who couldn't wait to get to land, but I loved them.

Like everyone else has said, you really get to know the cast members, it's relaxing, we found character lines etc shorter (I'm guessing due to less children on board), just all round awesome!

Are there a lot of kids on the TA cruise? On the Western Carib cruise, I just wanted to relax on board with my DS, so the TA sounds like a wonderful option. And since there is not a lot to see, a cheaper porthole or inside cabin would make the cost more reasonable.

We did the WBTA last year, and there were so few children on board that the adults took over the Goofy pool. But the kids on board all seemed to be having a great time, and the clubs were never crowded from what I've heard.

Yep definitely not many kids on board usually due to the fact its term time in a lot of countries. The kids however have so much fun because they get to know the other kids better and they get more attention from the kids club staff if that's even possible. The kids clubs are quiet and they do more personal activities. Still its a great option and I always have an inside room because I spend so little time in the room there's no point paying for a balcony.

Paid for a balcony last year and will certainly not be bothering again the only time we were in our cabin was to change for dinner and sleep we went out on the balcony once as we were pulling into Castaway Cay so no way I am paying all that extra again-will go towards some more of their wonderful cocktails!!!

i love the TA's. I've done the WBTA in 2014 finishing in Puerto Rico (love the Caribbean), just did the EBTA this year finishing in Copenhagen. Loved it but it made me realise i'm a fan of hot weather cruises. Definitely did not detract from the cruise though. I've also booked onto the EBTA for next year, mainly because it's sailing into my home town of Liverpool, yaaay!!!
I'd happily just sail back and forth across the Atlantic all the time :teeth:

This year we went on the Baltic Cruise on Disney Magic and loved it and then rebooked to do the Transatlantic cruise westbound for 2016. I realized that I would have liked more sea days as the 2 we had seemed like a blur. I'm excited to try it at least once.

Have done TA twice, each way. I prefer the westbound because you gain an hour most days at sea, while on eastbound you lose an hour most sea days. Also while i've had calm seas both ways, some have had rough seas in May.
