Airtran: Another good experience. We decided to splurge a little on the way down by flying in business class. Justification: We got a good price on the tickets, Airtran has been good to us in the past, and the upgrades were only $50 each. I had used reward points to get one business class upgrade, and then paid for three more at the counter; fortunately they were still available. Airtran now offers XM radio, about 60 channels of music, news, talk, etc., including Radio Disney. But the free earphones provided are necessarily so low in quality that its hardly worth the trouble. If you have good earphones, bring them with you!
When we landed in Orlando, our gate was occupied by a plane that was having maintenance problems. One of its engines was wide open but we couldnt see anyone working on it. I could easily imagine our plane sitting there for an hour waiting for a gate, but fortunately we got one after only a 15-minute delay. The only flight-related problem was that luggage was slow in arriving both coming and going, but of course that wasn't Airtran's fault.
National: The full-size half-aisle was again a big disappointment. This time there was only one actual full-size car available, a Buick Century, the last car I would have wanted. I'll spare you the details, but I would have much preferred an Impala, Intrepid, Camry, anything but a Century. Fortunately I reserved well in advance and got a good rate. There were also a couple cars parked on the aisle that weren't full size, one of them a 2-door!
WDW Buses: After one bad experience in 2002 we didn't use buses at all the last couple years. This year our two boys and I used them a couple times when we went somewhere without DW, and had good experiences. We went to AK on a rainy morning (Thu Dec 8) and we were the only people on the bus both ways! We arrived in plenty of time for opening and didn't have to wait long for a return bus about 1:00.
We also took the bus to MK on Saturday (Dec 10) and got there in plenty of time for park opening, and again no problem catching a return bus about 3:00. Both times the outgoing bus was YC/BC only, as was the return bus from MK. The return bus from AK went to all Epcot resorts, but it's the outgoing bus that's critical.
