trampoline owners.....

A man in our town is currently in ICU from falling off one --he is getting his feeling back in his toes, but his heart keeps stopping.

I wouldn't have one of those things in my yard.

Well lets see what word could properly answer this question I think it is this one YES we did and the Dr said it would be fine also if she could even walk on the cast which none of us figured she would ever do but she is a very strong willed kid and she did it.

Okay...the parent in me is slowly, ever so slowly slipping out of this thread before I say anything more.

Is it OK if I join you?

No offence Jill but what does it really matter to you she isn't your daughter she is ours and when we asked the DR he said if she could walk in the cast then there was no reason to keep her off it. So we let her.

Then your DR should be reported to his medical society...IF he REALLY said it was OK for a child in a full leg cast to jump on a trampoline!!!

And it's right, she is YOUR daughter, so why should any of us care? Oh, right, it has nothing to do with those high insurance costs for medical care. (Oh, in your case, the amount that the province deducts from paychecks for same.)

Now I'll back out. :rotfl:

Actually the province only covers plaster casts if we want a fiberglass one we have to pay for it so we did. As for the DR he is one of the most highly respected orthapedic childrens DR's around so if he says sure then I am good with that. Just so that yourself and Jill know there is no hard feelings on this subject everyone has thier own opinions of what is right and wrong and not everyone will always agree with them.

I absolutely agree!!! I have NEVER heard of a medical professional endorsing these things....and I am IN the medical field!

I would love to know his name, so the next time I see him I could ask him what the hell he was thinking! :confused3

On second thought, I don't want to know. I'll just tell this story at all the cocktail parties and dinners I attend at the next PEDIATRIC ORTHOPAEDIC SOCIETY of NORTH AMERICA meeting and see who thinks it's a good idea. :rotfl:

Of course, being in the medical field, you know that what you SAY, and what your patients HEAR are sometimes two very different things. :rotfl:

My friend's son broke his neck (he's okay) after doing a flip and landing wrong. They had the cage, he landed on the trampoline wrong.

Go to town and mention whatever you like. What he tells a patient and her family may be different than what he will say to his fellow physicians. For all I know he may have said it to mae her feel better she was only 3 at the time. So what he told us he may not say to his next patient or their family. I am only saying what was told to us.

My sister works for an insurance company and she sends out the cancellation letters on Trampolines. She has also told me that it is decidedly hard to get homeowners insurance at any kind of resonable rate if you have been cancelled.

You are correct once there is a cancellation on your record it is near impossible to get a decent rate for insurance wether it be home or car.

Put my vote down as a resounding NO TRAMPOLINES!!!! Does not matter if they have the walls/sides - it is not just an issue of falling off. We have one in our neighborhood - and DH's nieces have one - my DD is NOT allowed - this is hard sometimes and am I not always popular with DD at times because of it, but I make it clear that it is because I love her and it is my job to keep her safe - just one in a long line of such decisions to come......ah , the joys of parenting! :teeth:

we used to have one, but got rid of it when a friend fell off his (not ours) and ended up in the hospital for surgery

BTW,before anyone starts the "more kids get hurt/killed riding bikes, swimming, etc" debate, please remember to factor in the numbers of children who participate in a certain activity, the frequency of their participation, and the total amount of time spent in said activity (including practice time) and trampolines are near the top for injuries/fatalities per EXPOSURE.

We have had it for 6 years - no insurance issues at all - but if they did threaten to cancel - Dh would say Fine - we don't need insurance anyways - its a waste of money -
(we don't owe on the house so it is not required)
Respect the rules - thats all - teach your kids to respect the rules too -
I saw a video on tv of an absolute IDIOT in our state who was jumping on a trampoline and decided it would be neat to jump off it into one of those little blow up pools - needless to say he broke his back or neck and was floating when the video stopped - they said he was gong to survive...
ya well - that was just plain stupid - and his wife caught it all on tape and they played it over and over on the news...

i see trampolines in backyards everywhere around here. i just jumped on one for the first time a couple of months ago. it was really fun.

I hate to say it but that is Darwin at work there culling the herd just like the guys I know that stunt with thier sportbikes I run mine to the limit racing in a race series at a race track but they choose to do it on the street. They are the problem with societies outlook on sportbikes it is the few that ruin it for the many.

Let them cancel the insurance????? Then why do you pay for it, unless you were afraid of the ramification of being sued, encountering a loss, etc.

Ditto on the insurance. I thought of doing this last year. Talked to USAA, they advised of a class which I could take, which, without the class, the policy would not be written, and, with the class, it was an underwriting decision. I would assume that when little neighbor falls and breaks something, and sues you, your homeowner policy may deny coverage for failure to notify, fraud, etc.
