We will have a 4 hr layover between the train from NJ to Dc, and the train from DC to Orlando. Anyone know how we can best kill 4 hours at the DC station??? It will be Xmas day, so many stores will probably be closed...........anyone know the area???

Thanks,
Steve

There should be trains available which make connections in D.C., from New Jersey, with less than a four-hour wait (#195 or #135 probably). Better still, you could avoid the layover altogether by catching your Florida train in NJ instead of Washington. Both the Silver Star and Silver Meteor originate in New York's Penn Station and make stops in Newark and Trenton on the way to Pennslyvania and points south. Really, you can connect at any station between NY and D.C.. There will be a difference in fare though, which means none of these suggestions work if price is the reason you are changing trains in Washington.

If you are going to be at the train station in DC (Union Station), there is plenty to do. The train station itself is a destination when visiting. There is a mall in it and several different food options. It's a short walk to the capital building or a short cab ride to the white house and all the memorials. I hope this helps.
