Hello! We will be having our first trip to the Fort in January. :cool1:
I would like to eat at Trails End for one of our dinners. We will probably be eating an early dinner, around 5pm. Should I make an ADR?

Also would like to know what the bugs are like in January? Will we need bug spray? I know the weather could be warm or cold.

Thanks !

Early dinners are usually not too crowded at TE. It wouldn't hurt to make an ADR just to be sure, though.

I agree...its always best to have a reservation. Sometimes it is booked up and at other times its wide open. You never know.

In terms of bugs, it depend on the weather. If it is cool then its not bad at all. But if it is warm, then you can expect some bugs. It's never really bad that time of year though. I think its way worse in the late spring early summer when the yellow flies are out.
Regardless,
Have a great trip!

Usually January is wide open unless you are there around New Years/Christmas or the Marathon weekend. Plus you're going early in the evening. I say "no need" for the ADR, that's one less thing you need to stress over. You'll be fine without one.

And, if you hit the 1 in 100 chance of a wait, amble to the counter at Crocket's Tavern, get a cold (or warm) beverage, and enjoy the ambience. CT is inside TE anyway! :wave2:

That's how we're approaching it and we've been over the Xmas holidays and into Jan many times and we're getting in this year on 16 Dec and plan to eat at TE for dinner after doing our AP runs. No ADRs and we always have a back up plan to have something at the trailer if things fall apart.

I can never remember any sort of "BUG" issue during Dec/Jan, but you do need to be ready for really chilly mornings and a warm up on some days so it's the old layer and "STRIP" routine. For those chilly mornings a good combo for me is a T-shirt followed by my Pendleton Wool Shirt and then a light to even medium jacket and as it warms up I just remove the jacket and tie it around the waist. When we go in the morning we're usually back at FW by noon to 1 P.M. to eat, relax and get ready for the evening fun. In the evening even if it seems warm out when you leave do the reverse, but for me it's a heavier jacket since it can get quite chilly after the sun goes down and if you stay till 11 P.M. or later, especially on the boat ride back to FW from the MK.
