Trails End Dinner and Breakfast Review

We ate dinner twice at TE during our Feb 7-17 trip. Our server Deb Cary was just wonderful. She remembered us from our visit last October. That alone was worth the second dinner to me. I agree there are better restaurants on property but the cozy, friendly atmosphere is why I go. I had no complaints abouth the cleanlieness either. Maybe they could spruce up the menu a bit but leave the decor just the way it is. ::yes::

I thought Golden Corral was better than Trails End for breakfast, but will still eat at TE. It's just not the same experience.

We haven't had dinner there in a while, there are so many other more interesting choices in WDW.

Thanks for posting!

Although it may be unpopular to do so, I have to agree with the original poster. We avoid Trails End. We used to get the pizza there to go but now I think it must be frozen but then again I have had frozen pizza that tastes better.

The last time we ate there full service I just kept going back again and again to the buffet but not for the reason you might think. I kept going back trying to find something edible. BTW, I have only had worse ribs at one other place in my entire life.

We love Fort Wilderness but we'll drive off property to the Cracker Barrel in Kissimee if we want a proper country cooking dining experiece.

It's sad Disney let's good things fall apart. I started camping at FW, Thanksgiving of 04 and when I passed by TE I was like wow it must be good because lot's of people were waiting to get in. Now you can get a seat most anytime. I know we are planning on doing HDDR on one of our trips this year to the fort and I guess I'll starve myself so I'm hungry enough to eat.

I think Disney has this idea that no matter what, people will usually buy stuff even if it's not great.

IMO, FW is WDW's gem. I doubt any other resorts are as popular and the guests deserve a good meal with variety. Don't just say, well it's the only food at the fort unless you cook it so here you go. I will take the xtra time to go to WL or another resort or better yet cook my own meal.

Actually, I find it harder to get into Trails End than I used to (at least for breakfast).

I have to agree with the OP. We were really looking forward to our meal that evening. After a few days away from home, the thought of a good, home-style meal sounded very appealing. All of the reviews we read were fantastic. We live in the country and our kids love country food. They are not picky eaters.

The "awesome" fried chicken was old and dried out. We waited in a single, way-too-long line, for a "buffet" that consisted of a few selections, most of which were empty and not refilled during our stay.

Maybe we just were there on an off day, but I can honestly say that this was the worst meal we had in WDW. We left, went back to our room, and ordered pizza.

The atmosphere was what we expected. The food and the so-called buffet, was not. The only positive I can say is that the sweet tea was nice and refreshing!

That really wasn't a very fair comment.

Don't take my comment to heart as I probably should have worded it different. It was not meant as a slandt to you or anyone. In fact, what I meant was "you can't please everyone" which is true for just about anything.

I agree Trail End could use an up dated buffet, I usally do not eat there for the Buffet but I love there Nachos and a Beer at Crockets Traven, I do like the atmosphere... I miss when Crockets use to serve a great Steak!! Maybe thats waht TE should do become a Steak House!!

Boy, do I miss Crocket's Tavern!!!! Year before last, they had combined the seating for Trail's End and Crocket's but you could still order from Crocket's menu. I was hoping the same would hold true last December when a group of 13 of us ate there. I was very disappointed to learn that none of Crocket's menu items are available now. Our tradition was to arrive, set up camp and then go to Crocket's Tavern for dinner our first night. It's hard to let some traditions go.

I avoid buffets and all-you-can-eat situations and would rather eat where I can order just what I want and no more. Crocket's was a much better fit for us than Trail's End.

I love Cape May I’ve eating there 5 times, but the time before last meal at Cape May I got food poisoning it was just I and the other 2 people in our group never got sick. So we took a group of my Employees to Cape May for one of their dinners out. Well all 18 of us got food poisoning and 7 had to go to the hospital. I have eaten at TE for about 20 years and have never had food poisoning. So I will take the Basic TE food over the 2-½ days of vomiting the great meal my group and I experience from Cape May.:confused3

I have several friends who have gotten food poisoning after eating at Cape May. This has been at different times over a few years, the last being in December. I have eaten breakfast there once, and while it was pretty good, I can't bring myself to eat dinner there. There have been too many instances and I don't want to take the chance of getting sick and ruining my vacation. I've never gotten sick yet from WDW food and I want to keep it that way....hehe.

Having eaten at Cape May conservatively 30 times with may guests I can't recall anyone getting sick.

I know a little bit about how Central Florida Decease control works and one poster mentioned that 6 in his party were hospitalized. This will close the offending restaurant until the contamination is identified and corrected.

It would make the trade and local news for sure. So I have to take such reports with a grain of skeptical salt.

Having worked as a Paramedic for 18 years I will say that people are quick to blame health issues on food poisoning. Although it does happen its my belief that its not as widespread as some would think. I am exposed to a lot of sick people at work and I rarely get the flu, over the years I have had the flu 3 times while at WDW. There are people from all over the world concentrated in one place, all bringing their own regional brand of illness, most of which I havent been around. I think that more than anything else is the cause.

Just my $.02 FWIW

Well said..............

I agree 100%....

Human nature is such that people attribute their illness to whatever "comes up." The blame is seldom placed on a virus or the McDonald's fries they ate for lunch. If it is true food poisoning from a restaurant, especially a buffet, there would be a large number of people who ate at the same restaurant getting ill at the same time, not just a few.
