Thoughts on this restaurant for dinner? We have never been there before and would love to hear all the good and bad:)

I consider Trail's End one of the hidden bargains at WDW. It is a great BBQ buffet for a reasonable price. With ribs, chicken, chili and carved meats as their specialties, this isn't the best choice for a vegetarian, although there is pasta, pizza and a salad bar. The only complaint I have is that it is very difficult to get to the restaurant, especially if you are not staying at Fort Wilderness. Since you cannot take your car into the campgrounds, you have to park at the front of the property and take an internal bus to the restaurant. Depending on how many pick-ups the bus makes along the way, this can be a bit of a ride.

Still, I consider it worth the trip.

would taking a bus there from dtd or a park not be easier? I have never been but we are planning on eating there on our trip, and was planning on taking a fort wilderness bus from mk. then going to dtd and then back to our resort.

You'll still be dropped off at the front of FW and need to switch to an internal bus. I would take the boat from MK to FW, which drops you off very close to Trail's End. Then it's up to you. You could take the boat back to MK and catch a bus to your resort, or if you wanted to go DD, just take an internal bus to the front of FW to catch a bus to DD.

The food is really good. I love it. Only problem - I end up eating way too much.

I agree, take the boat. That is what we usually do.

My family and I really liked it. It really is one of the best bargains on property.

From the MK you would take a small boat to FW. From the marina it's a short walk.

Then I think the bus to DTD should also be in that area.

Depending on when your dinner ends, you could get lucky and catch a bus directly back to your resort. After the 2nd and 3rd Hoop-De-Doo shows of the night, there are buses up at the Settlement Bus Stop that go directly back to resorts. It's worth hanging around at the Fort until you can do that, rather than waste your time going through the Fort, back to DTD, then back to your resort.

I will echo the others who say take the boat from MK. I still think the dinner buffet is a good deal if you are paying out of pocket, but it isn't a great bang for the buck if you paid for the dining plan.

If like us, you have a teenaged son who can eat his weight in ribs, then this is a great place to set him free to feast. The only item I don't like on the dinner buffet is the pizza. The last time we ate it even our teenaged son, who doesn't seem to chew, but simply inhale his food, thought it lacked flavor and had a cardboardish consistency.

We used to enjoy at least one buffet breakfast here, paying out of pocket, but the offerings have diminished a great deal for breakfast and I don't think it is worth the time and effort to get here for breakfast anymore.

If you are a fried chicken lover it is also one of only two places that i know of that serves regular fried chicken onsite. They also have ribs. We all enjoyed it. It did satisfy my fried chicken craving.
