Traffic in December in Orlando Area

We're taking the family to WDW/Universal/Sea World Dec 13-20 and are trying to decide where to stay offsite. Haven't been to WDW since '89 and stayed with in-laws in Lakeland then. Now we've got a 11 year old and 7 year old, and the in-laws don't have the room (and we don't want a commute every day). Looking for one of the places with 2 BR suites. Have heard to avoid Kissimmee area because of traffic (or does this warning only apply in summer?). Have heard International Dr. area is very bad for traffic. So if you want the least traffic tie-ups when trying to get to and from the parks, what are the best hotel/resort corridors to consider staying along?

The other decision we have to make is whether to stay at one place while doing WDW and then stay somewhere else farther north while doing Universal and Sea World. I don't mind moving from one hotel to another if it would eliminate commuting time to and from the parks. Any suggestions from disney veterans or locals?

Traffic at the time you plan to be here in Dec. isn't that bad. I would suggest that you see if you can find a hotel on Palm Parkway. It is an easy trip to all the theme parks. It is close to the Crossroads so taking Hotel Blvd. into Disney is about a 5 minute trip. And you can then take it North (it turns into Turkey Lake Road) to Sea World and Universal.
