Traffic from LAX to DLR

We are arriving to LAX at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13th. I wanted to know what the traffic would be like if we left the LAX area around 3:00 p.m. (we are going to visit some family in Santa Monica once we get the rental car).

Is there a good time to head south or is the traffic always bad?

It's bad after 3, not as bad if you can leave a couple hours earlier...or wait until after dinner if you're not going to dl that day.

Thanks for the thoughts. I guess we can visit with family longer (bonus) and then head over to DLR after 7
