We are thinking of buying BLT and if we can't get back to Disney before Oct, we were thinking of trying to book a ski vacation with the DP's. Has anyone traded for a ski trip and if you have any info, I'd love to hear it!!

Prime ski weeks are almost impossible to get (CO, Utah, Tahoe) and when you do it's usually either when you plan far in advance (more than a year) or short notice (under 61 days). I wouldn't count on that. Might be able to use the Concierge Collection for Keystone or somewhere in the Northeast.

Ski weeks are one of those timeshare weeks that you really need to own. Exchanges are very hard to get during ski season, unless you own in the resort or in the system of that timeshare.

Hi,

We've been DVC members with SSR for 3 yrs. and haven't been able to exchange yet.

We couldn't get Hawaii:confused3 last year and gave up and stayed at The Grand Wailea. It was great but would of been nice to the the Vaca Club they talk about so wonderfully being able to exchange.

We've been on the wait list for 1 1/2 yrs for July 2009 at Harborside Atlantis and nothing has come through so we added the Marriott Aruba Surf Club, Marriott Aruba Ocean Club and Marriott Frenchmens' Cove a few months ago and still nothing. This is our year to bring our family and extended family in a two bedroom for eight. I think we will be paying out of pocket.:scared1:

I wouldn't buy a Disney Vacation Club hoping to exchange. We love Disney and vacation here often but it seems to work only for Disney. All the exchanges seem to go to the higher up Time Shares and there gone by the time they get to us. In my humble opion. We are considering buying Marriott for exchange reasons.

Harborside Atlantis during summer school vacations would more than likely be impossible without owning there. I did see some fall weeks, though, on Interval a few weeks ago, but they didn't last long - :) I also saw a 3 bedroom come up (must have been a cancellation) for a stay within a week of the siting. Boy, that was tempting to drop everything and try to do a spur of the moment trip.

Marriott and Starwood are just like DVC - to get prime time during school vacations means you probably need to own at that resort. But, if you are flexible and can go in non prime time, Interval trades do happen.

First of all, you have great tastes in resorts!! :thumbsup2

You will not get Harborside for July. Just won't happen. I own there and know first hand that those weeks never make it out to II. Summer time is peak time for alot of resorts, not on II, but for families to vacation. To get a summer time week at the resorts you mentioned to you would need to either pay cash, own there or do a direct exchange.

Its not always the "top" resorts that get the exchanges. Try exchanging into Myrtle Beach during in July. Its impossible too, and I would only rate one of those resorts a "top" resort.

As a Westin Owner, I could not exchange into Harborside during the summer, until I bought there. I could get May, early June, Sept, Oct, and early Nov - the rest of the year went to the actual owners at Harborside (which by the way is the number one requested resort in II).

Aruba is you best chance for next summer, but even then it will probably be only a couple of months notice and not a two bedroom.

this is one of the reasons I don't think owning anything top notch is a good value for exchanging. Too many negatives, costs and risks if you're giving up a top 5% week/resort there is very little that is truly comparable. It's almost always better to be in the middle of the pack with what you own and look to trade up most trades. Of course owning a system with an internal trading preference helps (Marriott or Starwood through II or any of the points systems that truly work with II/RCI).

Wow!! So I guess we need to forget looking at a ski resort out west for a trade, especially for this March. I guess from what I'm seeing is that you need to plan on using strictly for Disney and sometimes something else may pop up.

I saw where the cruises definitely were not a good value to use your points.

OTOH, it never hurts to try. The cruise might be a good option for DP that you wouldn't get good value of otherwise.

Getting a ski is not impossible. But since we are talking about this March, I would say that it is a very slim chance.

There was a studio this morning for Marriott Aruba Surf Club July 10-17. I know you wanted a two bedroom, but at least you can get one room and only pay cash for a second.

There is also a studio for Marriott Ocean club July 12-19.

That is it for the summer, as of right now.

I am new and spent time on the DVC member site today. I have seen other posts mentioning what's currently available throug II and the dates. How do you get this information. On the site under II I just keep getting to a site that shows all of the resorts but it doesn't show availability. What am I doing wrong?:confused3 :confused3

You are doing nothing wrong. I am using one of my Westin Timeshares for searches. DVC controls all aspects of your trades with II. A DVC owner can not search II inventory, since they do not have an individual II account.

You have to be an II member directly, something DVC members are not. Tom, I and others belong to and use II independent of DVC. Tom's big advantage when it comes to Westin is he is a Westin Owner and has the potential to see things in II for Westin deposits that non Westin Owners cannot see. My understanding is that Westin's internal trading priority with II is 3 days, after that the weeks become available to the general II population. Westin members no longer have a preference based on ownership and it then trade power alone becomes the sole determining factor of who's first and who's last. The last person to join the line may end up being the person at the head of the line.

The only exception is that DVC members can look directly for the short notice exchange options, even then you're only seeing a fraction of the flexchange (under 61 day) inventory.

Thanks DEAN and TOMANDROBIN for explaining that as DVC member alone we can't see inventory.
