I have been lurking on the boards and have been wondering if it is possible for members to swap/transfer points to swap the 11 month home resort booking advantage?

If possible could both members get on with MS at the same time and make the transfer? Trust is not an issue at that point and each member is in control of their future reservations

You are only permitted one transfer in or out each UY. So you would have to transfer out during one use year and then transfer in during the next UY.

So, if you have a Sept UY, you could transfer in points during your Sept 2012 UY (current dates until Aug 31) and then transfer out points during your Sept 2013 UY (good for stays after August 31, 2013).

with the limitation noted already, it is "possible."

the bigger issue tends to be 1) finding someone with the home resort you want who wants your home resort instead, and 2) figuring out an exchange rate. BLT pts cost more - BLT owners might not be willing to trade 1-to-1 for OKW pts. AKV pts have a higher annual dues rate - is it worth it to trade 1-to-1 with an owner at SSR?

it can be done, but it is fairly rare.

As noted if you try to switch via transfer, you cannot do it in the same use year because of the one transfer per use year rule. A separate option is for each owner to use his own points and call MS and make a reservation in the name of the other owner. You can do that in the same use year because that is not considered an actual transfer of points subject to the one transfer per use year rule.

But, in that case, the owner of the points still owns the reservation and the family using the reservation cannot make requests, add the dining plan, etc to the reservation. The owner has to do all that for the non-owner.

This is such a money making opportunity for Disney.

We all have resorts we'd like to stay at that we don't own - not always, but occasionally. Also, there's time where we don't care about our home resort and would give it up to get the advantage of booking elsewhere.

Seems like Disney could charge for this "swapping" service and make a little cashe while facilitating the transactions (maybe $1 per point or something).

It would require balancing, obvioulsy you can't pull from a resort that doesn't have equal deposits.

But, we're wanting to stay at Aulani this Christmas and would gladly swap out our BWV points to do so.

they would aim for 15$ per point .... not 1$ :rotfl2: but for real..

They could even make this an option only for direct purchase/grandfathered in owners. (Otherwise buying the cheapest resale, and paying an annual prem for any resort ONLY when you book more than 7 months out, makes the most sense... and there would be no reason to say buy GF.) This would make the 7 month window impossible at some places, as the limited supply already at 7 months.

Yes, you could post that, but only on the DVC Rent/Trade Board. You'll also want to review the sticky thread at the top of that board titled **How to use this Board ...**

Thanks. I read the stickies but must have missed that example. If things are unclear about how to use the board, should I post in the rent/trade forum?

I think these type issues rarely work out. You're likely far better off booking at 11 months with what you own and then booking something else at 7 months using the wait list if needed. Otherwise I'd consider renting my points out and renting someone else's to get the 11 month window. Likely cheaper and easier in the long run and as safe as well.

But they can make a whole lot more by just selling the member points instead of a onetime fee.

Don't just assume you won't get Aulani at the 7 month window. Just be prepared to call soon after MS opens the morning of the 7 month window and know exactly what you want when you call, also prepared with a 2nd and 3rd choice in the event your 1st choice isn't available. We had very good luck getting VGC for this past January using the above method and got exactly what we wanted and we were even able to add a day a few days after we made our original booking and VGC is a much smaller resort than Aulani.....granted we weren't trying for Christmas either, however, keep in mind Aulani isn't sold out yet either which maximizes your chances of getting something.

The Rent/Trade Board will only accept new threads with offers by DVC members to rent reservations using their points and offers to transfer their points. Anyone may respond to those offers by posting in those threads.

If you have questions about renting in general, you may post those questions on the DVC Member Services Board. If you have questions about how to use the Rent/Trade Board you can contact one of the moderators by PM or email. The Rent/Trade Board is not a discussion forum so questions/comments about renting are not allowed except on the Member Services Board.
