Trading pins with CM's

thank you! that would be dissapointing if she was limited.
does anyone find the quality different from the 2 lanyards? what would the purpose of making one only for kids be?
I don't think there is any difference between the green lanyard for kids or the regular blue lanyard. The pins that go on either one are totally random and owned by WDW. I would say the main difference is Cast Members want to give kids the chance to trade off a specific lanyard to make them feel special.

ok, makes sense, i guess kids would be more into it.

Remember, CMs can have a 13th pin that they cannot trade called a "Showcase" pin. Also, even if a pin is not stamped with the ODPT seal, as long as it represents a disney character, event, or movie it is considered Tradeable

Howdy! First off, if you want to ask questions about pin trading, I would like to let you know that the DIS has a board where questions like this will be greeted by lots of folks that collect and trade pins. It can be found http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=37

The DisneyShopping.com Semi-Annual Pin Sale officially kicks off tomorrow, but some of the deals got listed today in error, but they are honoring the prices. Some of the sets are pretty good deals, if you break them up.

FYI - Another great source of pin collecting and trading info can be found at http://www.dizpins.com/ and then there is also the internet trading site http://www.pinpics.com/

Happy Trading!

If the pin is on the CMs lanyard they trade it. The will trade for any pin they don't have as long as it's a Disney pin. It's not difficult just ask any CM to see their pins, They hold the lanyard out so you can see what they have. Say no thank you if you don't see anything you like, if you wish to trade tell them which pin you want and hand them the pin of yours you are trading.

oh my...i just wish every pintrader had the manners you do. it would pintrading so much more pleasant for CMs. imagine some people coming up to you and simply screaming "PINS!" ... yes, it does happen...very often...

My daughter got one of these without the seal on the back actually it had nothing on the back at all. I wouldn't let her trade it back to another CM because of that. I thought it had to have the Disney seal to be tradable. I also saw a few CM with plastic flag pins on their lanyard, I had sseen a guest handing them out to people at Rope Drop so evidently somepeople traded one of these pins with a CM and it was accepted. I didn't think they could display pins that were non Disney otherwise they would have a modge podge of various pins on their lanyard. Anyway it was strange to see a cheap plastic flag pin there with all the others.

nope, no 13th pin allowed! just because a lot of cast members wear a 13th pin not for trading, they are not officially permitted to do so! whether managers say something or not is another pair of shoes :)

and: i would rather display a spongebob squarepants pin by universal on my lanyard than saying NO to a guest! it's disney - no one says no to guests :)

All of our pins we have gotten, most from Ebay in anticipation for our trip in Dec. have the mickey ears clasp/back on them. However, we have one pin which has two clips and somehow we are missing one of the backs. Is it tradeable and/or is there a place at WDW where you can buy the mickey ear backs for them? Thanks:confused3

You can buy the plastic ears on ebay, or at the stores at WDW. They are in packs.. I also have some 'special' pins that I dont want to fall off my lanyard, but I want to wear them they have ones that actually have set screws that lock in the pins... Those arent cheap :). Then of course you can use backs off of some jewerly and stuff if you have extras..

Just remember if you are going to get pins from Ebay to get "official" pins; there are a lot of cheap knockoffs out there, that are not tradeable. Look at their feedback scores, etc. If you check the pin trading boards, there are a couple of sellers who have a great reputation.

If your daughter is going to trade with a green laynard, make sure you don't give her any help. I found out the hard way to keep my mouth shut after I very innocently made a suggestion to DS6 and was told that green lanyards are for kids only and no adult help.

thats strange, so if i say "ohh thats ones cute" we'll be scolded? bizarre.

Yeah, I think I said something like: oh, "DS" there's an '08 pin. DS had been collecting '08 pins our whole trip and I was pointing out that he had one on the lanyard.
I was really embarrassed after the CM said that to me.

yeah thats the other restriction, green is for kids only... but if you were helping your kid thats kinda redilculous that you got "scolded..." probably a CM having a bad day... wrong place, wrong time, whatever.

no, they can. and will.

hmmm well I know from personal experience there was a pin once I wanted but I only had one like they all ready had on their lanyard and it was a no go.

But like everything experiences vary.

Disney started the green lanyard for kids because too many adult traders were coming in and cleaning all the good pins off of lanyards and replacing them with "junk" pins, leaving nothing desirable for kids to trade for.

The reason the cm got crabby with the guest is because too many adults tell kids what pins to trade for, thus defeating the purpose of kids just trading for the fun of it.

Over the July 17 to the 19th weekend there was a CM that was Cindrella's "helper" that refused to trade with my DN, age 6. HE told my SIL that the 3 pins on the bottom of his lanyard(potholder style, can't remember the offical name for the square belt hanger type), were his "Personal" pins and she did not have anything he wanted! I was shocked! My DN was very confused. I got her into the pin trading cause I was tired of standing in line to take photos/autographs of the same WDW characters each and every trip. She was very confused.. wish I had been there! We have a lot of college age kids that are family friends that are CMs at WDW and when I told them what happened, and the exact time they are checking to see if they can find out who was the handler on that day/place/time. And since it was just after lunch at the Castle it should not be hard...
I don't have a problem with CMs having personal pins with them, but if they have them on an "offical" Disney lanyard I think they should be willing to trade. And several times we have been some place at WDW and had CMs trade from their personal pin stash when we asked if they knew anyone that had a pin we were looking for! They had them either in a pocket or in a couple cases they told us when they got off work/on break and went to a locker? and got the pin and then traded us! Talk about super nice! And we traded at England in ECPOT for a pin that one of the CMs had been trying to save for a fellow CM and when we found out tried to give it back... she wouldn't take it! So we found the pin latter from another CM, traded and went back to England to make sure the CM we got the first one from had it..she was off work, but we knew her name and a friend made sure she got it!
Also I agree that some adult kinda edge on their kids to get pins they want. I have wanted to several times with DN, but we all agreeded in the family that if she wanted to trade a pin that it was her decision, and we would not try and change her mind, we have, however, perma-backed several of the pins on her lanyard! And in her trading book.... but not till she got upset she had traded something in the heat of pintrading and regretted it latter! Good lesson for all of us....
