We are DVC members owning at BWV and HH. My parents own a timeshare in Cancun through interval international. While we have a trip booked at the BWV with our points, they are hoping to do an exchange to a studio during the same time frame, so that we could have a little more room and privacy for everyone. How difficult is it to trade into a DVC resort from II, specifically into the BWV? We are talking about during the summer months. Is the trade booked through DVC inventory, like a member? Or does it come out of the cash inventory because it is a trade? Does anyone have experience with a friend or family member trading into any DVC resort? Thanks!

The way DVC works with II, getting summer will be very unlikely and getting BW will be non existent. OKW might be an option. You're best bet would be to arrange a direct exchange with them if you have the points. Or they could rent it out and rent DVC. Even when BW owners exchange out, it's usually OKW or HH DVC gives to II.

What week, unit size and resort do they own?

Thanks, Dean. I had a feeling that it would be pretty difficult. They will probably just end up staying in our 2 BR with us, but they don't want to feel too crowded. They own at the Royal Islander in Cancun. They have a 2 BR in early December, but they often only use the 1 BR and can trade out the lock-off portion. At least, I think that is how it works.

The RI is a great resort as are all the Royals. December is relatively off time but likely less crowded. The lockoff at the RI is a hotel unit without any kitchen at all if memory serves me correctly. Still, you should work out a trade with them if you can swing it.
