DH and I are considering a DVC resale purchase sometime this year. I know that our points will almost always be spent at Disney, but I don't know how you go about trading for the other (Interval?) timeshares? Does anyone have a quick synopsis for me? Thanks!

go buy a much cheaper timeshare to trade - that said

DVC is great for WDW - however it is very expensive to trade - very few other timeshares are up to DVC quality.

you might consider the conceirge collection.

We would definitely plan on using our points for WDW for the *most* part, I just know it's an option to trade, but I wasn't sure how it all worked. Disney is our favorite place to be!

DVC Members can simply call MS and let them know of their interest. You can let MS know what dates and resorts you are interested in trying. They won't usually have an immediate match (depending on resort/location), but may be able to get back to you within a few days with something.

If you request a specific date and specific resort- your wait may be much longer (and sometimes won't become available at all)- so the more flexibility you indicate (range of dates and severak resorts) the more likely you'll have success.

As you indicated, you intend to use DVC primarily at WDW, but having other options does add to the DVC experience.

Enjoy!

Doc has given you the basics on II trading. Besides that, you can trade your points directly for other Disney hotels and DCL (Disney Collection), other historic Inns and World Class hotels (Concierge collection) and the Adventurer Collection (HAL cruises, bikes trips, etc).

IMO, the only one that has any real value is II. The rest are WAY too many points. For II, only a small subset are really worth trading for. Those are only for TOP resorts at PEAK times. Since you are in the situation of deciding up front, buy less points and look for other options for the non DVC stays. This might include cash or other timeshare exchanges.

Just wanted to add that sometimes you can find someone who owns at another timeshare who will want to do a direct exchange. This can be advantageous because owners at other resorts can book well in advance and reserve you a week of your choice. You could then do the same thing for them. We own in Maui, and have been approached by others who have offered us an exchange into a Four Seasons or DVC, for example. You might want to check out the Timeshare Users Group at www.tug2.net if you are interested in exchange possibilities.
