Trading an RCI week to stay at DVC

I am very new to this all and could use some help. My IL's have RCI weeks. I checked on their site and saw that DVC has their locations on there to trade. Has anyone here traded their RCI week for a week at DVC? How did that work?

And when you stay using the disney resorts, are your tickets included or do you have to purchase those seperately? Since it is an RCI week traded for the disney, could I still purchase the quick service dining plan?

Thanks so much for your help. :)

Exchanging into a DVC resort thru RCI is just like any other RCI exchange. There will be a $95 fee - due at check-in at the resort (this is in addition to the RCI exchange fees and guest certificate fees paid to RCI). RCI guests can schedule the free transportation from the airport - Disney's Magical Express (DME) - and can also purchase the Disney Dining Plan (also paid at check-in, but it must be added in advance). Theme Park admission is not part of the exchange, but may be purchased at the resort or by mail directly from Disney or one of the discount brokers.

After making the reservation, you will receive information about adding the DME and dining thru DVC.

Enjoy! :)

Thank you very much!

I finally got the log in info from my MIL but RCI's site is having issues and I can't seem to get the chance to even check to see what is available. I'll have to check back later to see if I can find something. I would assume they probably book up fast.

If you are flexible with your dates, there has been quite a bit of DVC inventory available recently thru the end of the year. Mostly Studios and 1BR villas but also 2BRs for some dates.

Good luck! :)

I was just trying to find an exchange on the RCI website and can't find any DVC resorts listed :confused3 Hope you have better luck. I already called RCI for assistance today (don't follow the DVC link and click on availability- there's a glitch and it just takes you back to log-in).

Any advice on how to find what DVC is available to trade?

Thanks,
Goofygirl

The way the RCI website is set up now, when you select "Exchange Your Week" you can navigate thru the options and will be able to "see" what resorts can be accessed based on the trading power of the week you have banked. If that trading power is sufficient, you should be able to see the DVC resorts listed - otherwise, they won't appear as options for your spacebank week.

You can also call RCI and they should be able to walk you thru the exchange process. You'll still face the same trading power issues over the phone.

Good luck! :)

I don't know much about trading power. I do know that we have a red week. What affects the trading power of a particular week?

Thanks again!

I just searched under resort directory and extra vacations and the disney resorts showed up- for 2,000-4,000 a week but they don't show up when I search for an exchange?
Guess I need to call RCI.

Thanks,
Goofygirl

I just called RCI and he helped me find the resorts by the codes DV01 through DV07. He said they are booking really quickly so that's why there aren't any in the exchange inventory right now. He said the search goes from now through Sept of 2010 and some people are on the computer constantly trying to find something. I might do an ongoing search to see what we can get.

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunatley, this is a white lie. There are units available for exchange for the second half of this year, many weeks.

I'm afraid you have a trade power issue.

Brian

On the reverse, if I traded DVC for RCI how does the color red, white, blue translate into low, mid and high season?

Thanks is advance.

Thanks Brian. I put in an ongoing search so we'll see what happens. We have a red week at a silver (I think it used to be gold) crown resort that is usually booked for the week we own. I don't know what else counts in the trading power. It would be great to stay in a DVC resort but we also had a great time when we stayed off-site too.
Thanks again,
Goofygirl

The color and crown don't mean as much as supply and demand for that resort and area within the exchange system. Color is a rough indicator of supply and demand, but very inexact. Some red weeks are bright searing red. Others are just the palest shade of pink.

I don't have much insight as to going the other way and how that maps to low/mid/high. I suspect it varies by area and maybe even by resort.

I talked to RCI and even if you have a red week in a gold crown resort doesn't mean you can trade to DVC. It is all in how much your resort is worth. The one we would trade isn't worth enough to be traded with a Disney resort, no matter what week we bank it's still not worth enough. So we can't do it. Bummer. But they did have another resort nearby that we could use. So it's really not a matter of something not being available, it has to do with your week not being worth enough to trade for a DVC.

Sarah,
Did RCI tell you your resort didn't have enough trading power? I asked and they said they couldn't tell. How do you know how much your resort week is worth?

Thanks,
Goofygirl

He did tell me it wasn't worth enough so it didn't give me enough trading power. I even asked if I banked my 2011 week if that would give me enough power and he said no. I believe there are openings right now with DVC, so if you can't see the option to switch to them, then you will probably never be able to switch. I guess it's kinda like switching from Holiday Inn to an expensive hotel. They aren't worth the same so they won't let you do it. Even though they have a red week and Disney is red. I was bummed. :( And I'm sorry you can't do it either.

How far in advance is RCI booking for DVC resorts we are dvc members but my parents just are RCI we all want to go next Feb of April can they book that far out

I see about 60 or so available weeks any given day, at all resorts and for dates through Dec. 09 for now with RCI Weeks. Points are different, I don't own any RCI point resorts, so that inventory would vary. At one point there were over 120 available weeks! :)

Did you see those weeks by searching for an exchange or looking at extra vacations? I see a whole list for extras but not when I try to search.

Thanks!

The major factors are the demand of the week and resort, unit size, resort rating and how far in advance you deposit.

It still sounds to me as if you have a trade power issue as there are quite a few weeks in place for this summer and fall.
On the reverse, if I traded DVC for RCI how does the color red, white, blue translate into low, mid and high season?
Not very well. white and blue will generally be LOW DVC season. Red will be divided up between MID and HIGH depending on the demand of the week and resort.

Sarah,

Yes and no. What they can tell you is the likelihood of a given request matching. They rate them 1 to 5 with a 1 being very likely to match. When they pull up on ongoing request, it shows right on their screen. I don't know if they can see this info without an ongoing request in place.

11 months is the earliest you'll see anything unless DVC deposits non member inventory.

I saw 84 WDW DVC weeks at 4 resorts earlier tonight, right now there are 87 at those same 4 resorts.
