Trader Sams: what am I not getting about it

I am not a huge fan of sitting inside, but I love sitting outside when they have the live music. Drinks, snacks and entertainment. It brings me back to our Hawaiian vacations.

Think it depends on the ordering activity while in there. Each visit is different. It is a bit too small. The layout blocks a few things. May have to get up and move to see the shipwreck. Best spot is center at the bar, with the drink preparation being a show also. May be a new limited edition mug available to take home to remember the experience.

@DizMe Good advice on the reservations! I’ll be curious how long they keep the system in place.

I had fun taking my 21 year old son to TS too, he conquered his first Uh-Oa! that night... I didn’t get much of it lol

Yeah I needed a place for my mugs too, talked my wife into giving up our dining room to turn into a Tiki Bar Still a work in progress but it's been fun. Gets more use than the dining room ever did too!

Wow, that’s amazing! When we finish our basement, we plan to set up a bar down there. You are giving me an idea!

It's atmosphere is great, food is surprisingly tasty (even their ramen!) and cocktails are super yummy.

After reading this thread last night, I had a dream I was at Trader Sam's and ordered 6 Piranha Pools and got kicked out cuz I was too giggly LOL

There is a walk up bar right next to it that you can get drinks from. Food comes from Tangaroa Terrace. You can either mobile order it or have a pool waiter take your order and bring it to you poolside.

Prior to the outdoor bar being constructed, they would allow you to walk in and order from the bar, but they don't allow that anymore.

You are either a Tiki lover or a Tiki hater. I love it. I live 3 miles from the best-themed Tiki bar in the nation. It's not quite as cool as TS (because Disney), but carries that same theme over quite well.

Where is this bar and what’s the name? We are heading to LA, Vegas and Phoenix at the end of the month and I’m always looking out for cool bar recommendations!

Undertow. They used to be located underground at the property next door to where they are now (better themed IMHO). It's now co-located at ground-level with Century Grand (also an AMAZING themed spot), and they are opening up a second UT location in the SE valley sometime this year.

Goldent Tiki in Vegas is AMAZINGLY themed. Their drinks are pure garbage. UT drinks are absolute works of art but take it easy on them. I can do 3 but I'm a professional. They pack a punch but you don't taste it.

Have you been since the move? I loved my night at the old location, we were at the bar and had great conversations all night with the bartender.

Yes, three times. I still MUCH prefer the previous location.

I can see it not being for everyone, but I think the food, drinks and theming are all fabulous. DD (13) also asks to go there each trip for the food and mocktails.

@Diana ZP thanks it's been fun building it out and collecting decorations for it. Need to tackle the walls next, but we have another space on the back side we call the Bamboo Lounge that we're working on too.

@DizMe thanks it really has been fun and looking forward to it warming up and having a group over, some grilled Huli Huli chicken and Kalbi with Drinks!

I had a blast with my son, it was fun to see him as an "adult" and enjoying Trader Sam's. He makes Uh-Oa's for his roommates now

Did he get the Uh Oa bowl to take home? I want one (and the recipe!). I got one a few years ago for my oldest daughter. I get different TS's mugs for her every so often because she has a Tiki bar in her back yard. I once bought myself a case of those clear glass mugs that have a happy Tiki on one side and an angry one on the other. Do you know what I mean? They used to have them at TS but also lots of other tiki places.

My 21-year-old decided on the Piranha mug .
