We drive every year to Disney all the way from Maine and we're thinking of taking a break this year. Have any of you stayed at any of the properties in New England? And would you recommend them? We have 3 very active children-this summer their ages will be (almost 8, 6 and 3.5). (We live in Southern Maine and would be happy to drive any where from 1 hour to say 8 hours away.) Thanks!!! :wizard:

We stayed for a long weekend at the VonTrapp Family Lodge several years ago pre-DVC. We thought it was a great resort, and want to return "someday."

(Definition of "Someday": when we have a chance to add on enough points to trade into VonTrapp and go to Florida for a week in the same use year, lol. "Someday" may be coming sooner than I thought now that they will be changing rules in 2008 to allow trades into Interval of less than one week. :rotfl2:)

That aside, it's a great resort owned by the VonTrapp family of the Sound of Music. You can find the history of the resort on the website. Lots of activities and great apple strudel, lol.

I've been there-not on a stay, but just for a visit and thought it was amazing looking (does look just like the movie too), but DH thinks it will be boring for the kids and I kind of agree-I think it's more of a grown up geared place, plus although I love Stowe, it is a very pricey town. I was looking into Smuggler's Notch and I wish we could trade into there, but it's not an interval exchange I guess.

II has 3 in Mashpee including the Sea Mist but only one, Cape Cod Holiday estates is on the DVC list. To be honest, there are only a very few resorts in the NE and Middle Atlantic areas that are comparable to DVC. There are a few other second tier resorts that are worth considering including the Trapp family lodge. One might consider the Marriott in Boston. InnSeason Resorts - Captain's Quarters • CQS Falmouth, Massachusetts and Harbour Ridge in Southwest Harbour might be others to consider. I'd recommend one do quite a bit of research about the various resorts including on redweeks and TUG (timeshare users group) before deciding to accept a given resort.

Hi there,

We have just heard of the new scheme that seems very interesting to us, that 3 and 4 night exchanges to II will be possible from next year. Which is great as we can pop across to Spain for a few days without having to spent $3000 + on airfares before we even think of tickets. Does anyone know the "seasons" and what the likely points values would be.

Any help would be great. This will not stop us making the annual pilgrimage to WDW for 2 weeks every year.

Rgds,

The Inn Season resorts are nice, but they are not close to a DVC. The rooms are nice, but there is usually a few things like a pool and maybe a fitness room, but not alot more. The Falls at Ogunquit has nice rooms and free shuttles to downtown and the beach, but is not on the water. The resorts in Lincoln, NH are nice also, with South Mountain being a little nicer than Pollard brook. Not sure how the Cape ones are as I have only seen Harborwalk personally and it is not listed as an exchange.

The Sagamore on Lake George in upstate NY is wonderful - the setting is magnificent. Many, Many things for the kids to do in the area. They would love the Great Escape and lots of things in the Village of Lake George.

Don't think I could feel like we're on vacation is Ogunquit since we live about 25 min. away and are there quite a bit in the summer and fall. Probably could do one or two nights there as a little local getaway, but wouldn't really want to use our pts for it. Lincoln NH sounds good and there's a lot to do there-just not sure yet....

This one sounds really nice, but not sure about spending an entire week in Lake George.-went there a few times as a kid. I guess my kids would prob love it though. But is it really worth 48 pts a night in the summer???

the inn seasons resorts in falmouth are nice all are either just near the beach or across the street from the beach.

certainly not comparable to DVC but nice.

I respectfully disagre however with Dean on this one. I would choose The II choice of Sea mist in Mashpee. It is not BEACH front or beach side. it is however a literal 3 minute ride to a beautiful ocean beach.
The units are immaculate and the grounds are immaculate as well.

There is a small kids playground.
Sand vollyball
tennis courts
an outdoor pool
a lovely indoor pool and hot tub( also immaculate)
a small kids mini golf course that is free.

there are planned activities all week as well.

i can't recall all..... but a few that have offerred some for a small fee.

kids ceramics
kids movie and pizza night
family barbque maybe this was $5 per person
ice cream social 3 per person.
The Baffoonery bus ( i know I must expalin this one..... LOL it's a larger pink bus that travels for parties etc.. it has a clown who does small activities balloon art, spin art, things of that nature. small to very minimal fees.

i'ts centrally located you can do a day trip here and there. you can do a trip to the vineyard, Woods hole oceanographic insitute which has a small aquarium and a town big on charm... ( for luch etc)

mashpee commons small cluster of shops and restauraunts.

a day trip to hyannis fora pirate cruise or deep sea fishing.

nice clean safe family resort!!!!

Thanks for the info. That does sound great. Will have to look into it more!

Lake George for a week would be wonderful. You could do something different every day with the kids. Go on-line and look at the Sagamore. You won't find a more beautiful setting. The water on Lake George is crystal clear. Go to the top of Prospect mountain and enjoy the view. So beautiful... Lots of nice restaurants in the area also. It's worth the points.

We're looking at the Marriott Custom House in Boston for summer 2009 but we haven't stayed there before nor have we exchanged into II before. But we were looking for somewhere in the NE. I looked it up online and it looks like a nice place to stay for using it as a base to tour the Boston area.

A nice option, just realize they only have Friday check ins, only 1 BR sleep 4 units and are strict on the occupancy limits.

Dean - thanks for the reminder about the friday only check in for Boston's Custom House - I had read that but forgot about it, but since we don't have any specific dates that we need to arrive by, we should be okay with it (assuming it will still be an option for DVCers to trade into II in 2009).

I had looked at some options in England but we ran into occupancy issues since we are a family of four and many places are occupancy-levels of just two. It looks like the Custom House set-up would work well for us with adequate space for the week for us.
