Trade in towards AP?

Hi,
I have a 3 day MYW ticket and was wondering if I would get full value towards trade-in on an AP? I had a 7 day MYW ticket for my niece (1/2 used) and my SIL tried to put it towards an AP & they said that since the ticket would expire it couldn't be traded in. I was confused when I heard this, since it was a no expiration ticket that was first used in February. Do no expiration option MYW tickets expire a certain amount of time after 1st use???

Must have been a misunderstanding. If it's a No Expiration ticket, you can trade it infor the amount paid towards an AP, or as it's called - Upgrading.

I would assume, even if there is an expiration on it, as long as it's upgraded before the expiration date, you should have no problem in doing so.

We were able to apply the unused portion of one park hopper from 2002 to one of our APs this year. It had 1 day left and we got something like $42 applied towards the AP.

For MYW tickets I am told you can trade up towards an annual pass but that the exchange rate is quite unfavorable. You would get as trade up value the difference between the gate price of what you had and the gate price of what you used, in your case the difference between a 3 day pass and a 2 day pass. In your case the difference is not all that bad, but in the case of a 6 day pass with one day remaining the trade up value would be $3. for an unexpired expiring pass or $14. for a non-expiring pass.

Correct me if I am wrong.

For (pre-2005) park hoppers the trade up value is based on the wholesale price of the pass at the time of its manufacture and is pro-rated.

First thing - we have to synch ticket terminology up with Disney.

When you or I think of upgrading - we're thinking of getting admission with more options or days than what we currently have.

Disney Cast Members are trained to think something different. When you ask Disney about upgrading, they're thinking of applying the FULL VALUE of a ticket towards admission with more options or days.

So, they'll give you that full value if:
* your ticket is completely unused
* you are within 14 days of the FIRST USE of the ticket

If your ticket doesn't fit into that criteria, they're going to tell you that you cannot upgrade.

If you have a ticket that does not fit that criteria, but the ticket has the non-expiration option, you can get a pro-rated credit for the unused portion.

So to the OP - if your sister asked about upgrading, that's where the confusion came in.

As long as it has non-expiration on it, you can apply the remaining value towards an annual pass. Just tell the cast member that you want to apply the value of partially used admission toward an annual pass. Don't even talk about upgrading!

Also, I forgot to mention that when MYW first came out, people were told you'd be credited based on gate admission.

Disney is now being pretty tight-lipped about it. If you ask, they'll tell you that the value can only be determined by bringing the ticket to Walt Disney World and having it scanned at a resort Concierge Desk, ticket window, or Guest Relations.

Can you upgrade a ticket from your resort concierge desk? If so, that would be great! I have a 7 day park hopper with 4 plusses that I want to upgrade to an AP with. Does anyone know how much this thing is worth? It is approx 2 y/o and does not expire. I've been offered $279 for it but I think I paid $350 for it!

Is the ticket used at all?

If your ticket is 2 years old, then it is one of the old-style Park Hopper Plus passes, not the current Magic Your Way pass. Not much difference for trade-in purposes, except that the old hoppers never expired; there was no extra charge for the no-expiry option in the old days.

The amount of credit you get for trading in an old ticket is the amouont you paid for it, minus any days that were used. The amount you paid for it will actually be printed on the back of the ticket.

If all the days were used, and all you have left are plusses, you're out of luck; the old plusses have no value for trade-up or upgrade.

Yes, it is the old style hopper, unused. There is no price on the back of this ticket. It was bought from Paramount travel a couple of years ago. Does anyone know how much this ticket is worth? TIA
