Tracking Castaway Cay docking, need your help!

I will have to check my old cruise docs but I think the first sailing of the Magic for passengers was 7/30/98.....because we were on it!!! I am pretty sure because I remember sailing on a Thursday but like I said...I will have to check my old docs. I believe the first sailing of the Wonder was early August, 1999.

We have sailed DCL 9 times and each time we successfully made it CC.

07/30/98 - Magic 4 Day - Magic's Maiden Voyage!
10/21/99 - Wonder 3 Day
07/03/00 - Magic 4 Day - I know we were in Nassau for the 4th but not sure what day we sailed.
07/07/01 - Magic 7 Day - Eastern
02/23/02 - Magic 7 Day Eastern
08/03/02 - Magic 7 Day - Western
01/04/03 - Magic 7 Day - Western
05/17/03 - Magic 7 Day - Eastern
09/25/03 - Wonder 3 Day

October 5-12, 2002 Eastern Magic did dock at Castaway Cay.

I think there were problems the week before, Western missed Grand Cayman, I think, Twinave posted above???? Therefore CC twice. Hurricanes Lili, Isador and trop storm Kyle were active in the areas and made for very rough weather last Western before us, (stage folks said piano was rolling across the stage and a few performances were cancelled). Quite high seas our first few days as the Captain was outrunning Kyle.

Here are the results I've gotten so far. It seems that the DIS board faithful are a pretty lucky bunch. As near as I can figure, there have been 809 sailings - 375 for the Magic, 434 for the Wonder (not counting current voyages), so about 14% of all trips have been accounted for. Perhaps someone who knows more about statistics than I do can tell us how significant this sample size is. I suspect it is a bit on the small side. Anyway:

Magic 63-64 (98%)
Wonder 45-48 (93%)

Overall 108-112 (96%)

By Month:

Jan 11-12
Feb 8-9
Mar 4-4
Apr 11-11
May 9-9
Jun 8-8
Jul 8-8
Aug 9-9
Sep 13-14
Oct 11-12
Nov 7-7
Dec 9-9

If you haven't responded, please do, I would sincerely appreciate it. I'd like to make this as complete as possible. Thanks to all who have played along for indulging me.

Lloyd,

When all is said and done with this survey I think that the number of times that DCL is not able to dock at C.C. will be around 5%, much lower than the 50% that was mentioned elsewhere on this board.

The Wonder docked at CC on October 18, 2003 - our first (but definately not the last) Disney cruise!

I also know that the Wonder docked our the May 17 4-day - our neighbors were on that sailing.

Hope this helps!

Do you think there would be any way to break the stats down to analyze what months are the best bet to dock and which are the most likely to not dock? People could use that to help make an informed decision when to cruise.

I did break it down by month in my earlier post. I think it's on page 2 of this thread. I've gotten about 30 or so more replies since then, and I'll give it until it falls back off the first page again, and then post the totals.

I would hate to see potential guests base their cruising dates on unofficial stats, or even DCL's "official" stats (unless they were identical each year - - highly unlikely), because weather and seas are very unpredictable in this area. People could switch their cruise dates from one that showed more non-docking to one that appeared mostly successful, and still end up not docking due to the odd rough seas or high winds. I prefer to take my chances and experience whatever fate holds for my chosen dates, BUT for those who take a different approach, my Disney cruise dates are listed in my sig below and under PAST cruises, ALL successfully docked at Castaway Cay. FYI, it only rained at CC on one of my cruises, but that wasn't the question . . .
