TR with the Man Who Said He Would NEVER Go To Disney! COMPLETE!!! 12/3-12/10 NEW 5/19

What a great day you're having, all your food looks delicious and I do hope you see some animals from your balcony soon :goodvibes

After we finished up at 50's Prime Time, the kids wanted a photo by Gertie.

They had to get pics taken in these things...

We started making our way over to One Man's Dream. Luckily the movie was about to start so we got to relax in there for a bit. DD fell asleep. My dad has seen many specials on Walt Disney so he knew the history but this is always such a neat thing to see WHILE you're in Disney.

Unfortunately the stunt show was not going to be showing anymore that day (I had really wanted my dad to see it)... so we made our way over to Indiana Jones. Last time we saw this show I was picked as an extra. I had so much fun! The show got cut short so we never did get to see the ending. This was a nice break and fun to see the show in it's entirety.

We still had more time to waste before our dinner (I know, almost time to eat again!) My sister really wanted to see American Idol. I've never done the show so we decided to give it a whirl. It was the finale so we got to see the best contestants from the day. I'm not a fan of American Idol and I probably wouldn't waste my time with this show again but it was a good idea to take up some time. (The boy we voted for ended up winning!)

It was time to head over to the Beach Club. We had to stand in line for the boat for quite some time but eventually got a seat. This picture shows how tired my dad is at this point... lol...

We got off at the Yacht Club and made our way over to the Beach Club. The view of the Boardwalk from there was beautiful... we're staying at the Boardwalk in October and I am VERY excited about being so close to Epcot during F&W :)

We found the shipwreck to be interesting... I've never been to the Yacht Club so it was fun to check it out from the outside.

We have arrived.

When we stepped into the lobby, all you could smell was chocolate. It was such a delicious smell... the centerpiece in the lobby was just beautiful!

We were about an hour early for our reservation. I checked in at Cape May.. the girls commented on my nails and how they wish they could have nails like that (Disney must not allow that if you're working for them).. we were given a pager and they said they would try to get us in earlier. DS needed to go to the bathroom so everyone else took a seat in the lobby and I took DS to the bathroom. Not 30 seconds after he entered the boy's bathroom our pager went off. Of course this was one of the times he took what seemed FOREVER in the bathroom.. lol. Our pager eventually stopped shaking and beeping. We returned to the lobby and got seated right away.

Our waitress was fantastic.. the food was great. My dad & sister didn't eat very much due to our big lunch but DS and I made up for that!

This buffet was great.. again. I love the choices and getting to draw on the table cloth is fun too!

Cape May's Christmas tree...

After the meal we really didn't feel like catching the boat to get on a bus so we got a cab. The lady at the Beach Club called a cab for my son. She said he was the one in charge. Everyone got a kick out of that. Our taxi driver was AMAZING! Elvis was his name and he had a portable dvd player with Despicable Me 2 playing. The movie wasn't even out yet... the kids were so happy, they didn't want to leave the taxi. Elvis gave the kids his copy of the dvd to take home when we got to AKV. Disney magic and he wasn't even a part of Disney :)

little late to the party but joining!

Sorry to hear about your mom passing but enjoyed reading the story about how your Dad has grown, etc. ... glad he did say "yes" to the trip - and you got it booked before he could change his mind ;)

That's a fun idea to do the 100 days til Disney Party. I've just become aware of this whole "100 days thing" being a big deal with my DD in school ---- nothing against school but a 100 days til Disney sounds way more fun!

Wow - great prize for knowing a lot about Disney! And the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" Disney shirts are super cute

Very fancy nails - my DD was very impressed!

ugh, as great as ME is ..... realizing you are 5th in order of what resorts the bus is stopping at has to be one of the bigger let downs ... just on of those "so close, yet so far" moments

Glad they were able to find a room closer to the elevator for you - definitely sounds like it was worth it. And you room looks really nice and the bathroom is huge!

Glad everyone enjoyed Fantasmic! Did DD / you enjoy the glow with the show ears?

The deluxe plan does sound like a lot of food - nice that they do have some lighter options (like fruit for dessert) though. and 3 table services on your first full day!??! I love Disney food but I think I also like get multiple small things (totally love the Food & Wine Festival) so that sounds like a lot to me ... might have to try it once to be sure though ;)

Glad your father liked the Osborne lights and that it kinda brought your mom back to him for a moment

Nice job with the homemade autograph books.

Those wait time screens at the bus stop are super nice and really helps take the wonder out of "when is OUR bus going to get here?!?!?!"

Glad things worked out with getting to Toy Story Mania. We have done the pre-park opening ADR at H&V and usually wind up sending someone to get FP- for TSM before we are done with our meal .... course now with FP+ that isn't really an issue/option now

Glad your dad enjoyed the animation class - we did that for the first time last trip and I really enjoyed it, though DD was upset they didn't pick her choice for what character to draw (she wanted Daisy but the group picked Dopey)

50's Prime Time looked great - been a while since we have eaten there. I like how your experience with the portion size was like the Goldilocks - first time was too big, then too small, but this time it was just right!

Glad you enjoyed One Man's Dream ... I'm happy to see it seems to be getting more popular and people are enjoying it! Maybe they should offer up extra FP+ to people that go to it as it really is special to see all the background in getting to Disney World and then also the newer parks/future work

The Cape May buffet looks good - the desserts too!

How cool that the kids got a copy of the Despicable Me 2 DVD to keep!

Can't wait for more!

Sorry for the lack of updates lately... been planning a very unexpected trip for me and DS (surprising him) for my birthday in May!!! I'm also trying to get my scrapbook done from this past trip.. I hate to get behind in this stuff!

Did DD / you enjoy the glow with the show ears?

First off, thanks for all the comments!!! Yes, she enjoyed them. I'm not overly impressed by them. They don't fit her head very well and they didn't change during Wishes ??? I'm glad we only bought one set!

Our third day was going to be spent at Epcot. DD had a rough time getting DS to wake up that morning...

Jingles left some cool pool toys for the kids... They were very excited about that!

We woke up to zebras outside this morning! Yay!!!

The sunrise over the savanna was so beautiful.

These were my favorite outfits from the trip... The kids looked so adorable on this day..

Not to mention, I was matching with DD...

We arrived just as the rope drop ceremony was ending.. Perfect timing.

Dad was impressed when he saw the ball. Epcot is like a whole new world (in my opinion). I was so excited to show him everything. Our first piece of business was to get on Test Track. We had a FP+ time reserved for 9-10am. Here he is getting the hang of this Magic Band thing...

The walk seemed to take forever..

We were finally there. When the first car made it’s way around the building, I could see dad was excited. We have not been on Test Track since my trip with my son in October 2011. DD never had the chance to ride it since she wasn’t tall enough for the old one. I couldn’t wait to try this one out!

The line was a lot of fun... Tons of stuff to look at.

I loved the idea of designing our own cars!!! Unfortunately, this did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. We were let into the design room. DD, my sister & I were together on one and then DS and grandpa were on another. DS’s screen was not working. Of course there are no CM’s in the room with you :( We wasted so much time trying to get his to work... We moved him to another screen and then it worked. It was quite the disappointment and he didn’t get to go through all the options but his vehicle still saved on his Magic Band.

The engines were pretty neat...

We scanned our bands before we got on and we had a single rider guy go with us. The ride was GREAT. My dad loved it. It’s his favorite of everything we did on this trip. When those doors opened, he said it was the best part of it. DS’s incompleted vehicle ended up winning! He was thrilled!

We didn’t have any time to enjoy the games and things after Test Track. We had to high tail it over to Soarin’ in order to use our FP+’s that were scheduled for 9am-10am.

That walk seemed to take forever! Halfway there, my sister stated that she needed to use the bathroom... I told her she will have to HURRY! Lol...

We didn’t see a bathroom all the way to Soarin’ until we got there so my sister quick went while we got in line. Yes, there was a line for FP+ :( We got our bands scanned at 9:59am (no lie!) That was cutting it close!!! We had a great flight. Dad said he wished it was about 30 minutes long.. Don’t we all?

The kids were hungry afterwards so we grabbed a quick drink and snack (Craisins) at Sunshine Seasons.

We decided to ride Livin’ with the Land after that... I just love that ride... So relaxing and I always learn something new.

On our way out of the Land, I snapped a few quick pictures of this model made of chocolate... Amazing!!!

Goodbye Land!

Next we were headed over to Club Cool. I thought it didn’t open until 11am but I was mistaken, it was open already :)

We had fun trying the new flavors... Dad tried Beverly and didn’t make a big deal out of it.. Lol. It’s always nice to have a break in there.

By this time it was just 11am so it was time to enter World Showcase.

Gotta love those sky writers.. NOT!

Why can’t Disney do something about those?

love your son's mickey tie shirt!

bummer about your son having issues with the TT car design, but sounds like a good ride overall

That was cutting it pretty close - though I think they give you a 15 min. grace period for FP+, but still

We love living with the Land - usually go on it at least twice each trip

I always tend to go left when entering World Showcase... Mexico was our first stop.

I love it in there!

I wanted a margarita soooo bad! I had the avocado on my last trip and it was excellent.

Unfortunately, they don’t start serving until noon! I know.. Total disappointment :( So we rode Three Caballeros.

The kids grabbed a Duffy to color while in Mexico. We had a FP+ for Maelstrom so we headed off to Norway next.

DS hasn’t been on this ride before... He absolutely lost it when we almost went over the waterfall. After that he calmed down though.

The gift shop is always fun to look around in. There was a great family that offered to take our picture so we returned the favor (just love Disney folks!)

We continued on... On my next trip I WILL visit China... I just never get around to it!

The day was beautiful... Around 80 with a nice breeze. Just perfect. We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather. Not a drop of rain the entire trip!!!

They always love to play on the drums..

There was a man in Future World that stopped us to tell me how absolutely adorable DD was in her outfit. He said “just precious”... Made my day!

We had a lunch ADR for Biergarten.

I attempted to check in early but they wouldn’t have it. Can’t check in until 15 minutes prior.. We only had 15 minutes to wait so we bought some caramel corn in the gift shop. (had to use up those snack credits somehow)

The kids waited patiently. We were getting pretty hungry by now.

Reading the menu out front didn’t help much either!

They could really use some more seating in that area. It was finally time to check in and we were taken in immediately.

We were seated way off to the left of the stage on the top tier. It was a great table. Being from Wisconsin, German food is pretty common around these parts. I thought for sure this would be a hit with my dad and sister.

Lots of great choices!

Beer cheese soup was my new found favorite on this trip... So good I had to try to make it as soon as I got home (turned out almost exactly like it too!)

Desserts were amazing.. Soo good! Right before we went up for desserts, there was another couple seated at our table. They did not seem too thrilled to be seated with another family but that’s how it works at Biergarten.

All in all, it was a good meal. My dad wasn’t terribly impressed by the sausage/veal. It was pretty flavorless but I thought the beer cheese soup alone was worth the cost of the buffet. Yum! The entertainment started up as we were enjoying dessert. We got to enjoy just enough before it was time to head back out into World Showcase.

The sun was shining bright.

We made it to the American Pavilion and everyone needed a bathroom break. We never made a meeting spot (big mistake).. Lol. So we ended up sitting right outside of the bathrooms for about 20 minutes “waiting” for my dad. Turns out he was in the gift shop “waiting” for us!

While we were waiting, Mr. & Mrs. Clause made their entrance... The line was soooo long and I felt so sorry for them being dressed in their North Pole clothes when it was 80+ degrees outside.. Ugh!

The trees were so beautiful everywhere... So much more to see around the holidays.

I just loved these dolls!

Gotta love the friendly animals :)

We wanted to do the Pick a Pearl again with DD so we got a number and looked around for a bit. It was finally her turn... We tried to find the ugliest, hairiest looking clam but alas, we ended up with our usual 7mm white pearl.

I really enjoy Japan. I feel like I never get to see everything there (I guess that’s the point!)

We were planning to take a boat back to Future World but alas, the boats were not running :( So we enjoyed the walk... the poinsettia bushes were beautiful. That was my mom's favorite flower so it made us think of her.

I spotted this yummy refreshment stand.. I pointed out some tables for everyone to take a rest at while I got in line.

This hit the spot. It recharged me enough to make it the rest of the way around :)

We took advantage of the photo spot near France.

Everyone was pretty thirsty by the time we got to Canada so we took another rest, got some beverages and I decided to try these pineapple fritters. These were terrible... tasted burnt and just yucky. Never again.

The walk went fairly quickly. I just love this view.

We made our way over to Spaceship Earth and rode that.

We got some quick Photopass pictures taken before we left the park.

On our way back to the resort the kids had to make some important phone calls back home.

We enjoyed some time on the balcony.

DS used a snack credit to grab a lollipop from the gift shop.

The giraffes made their way over by us.

This was such a nice break from the park that day.

My pedometer showed that we walked over 15 miles that day! My dad couldn't believe it. I'm not sure how accurate that thing is but it was definitely a lot of walking.

Following along :coffee:
Love the matching Minnie dresses.
Epcot was the first park we visited back in December (first Disney trip), I made the mistake of wearing sandals instead of running shoes. By the end of the night my feet hurt so bad I wanted to cry. We did a tonne of walking, and we didn't even make it past Italy. :confused3
Your drink selection looks super yummy. It's on my must try list for our next trip, which won't be till Dec 2015.

Great updates!! Your kids are too adorable in their outfits!! It does not surprise me at all that a random person would stop and tell you how cute your daughter is!
We also never go into China-- we had dinner at Nine Dragons in 2009 but that's really it. I've just never been very interested in checking it out more. :confused3
Ahh, we loveee Biergarten! We're going again in September-- I'll have to try that beer cheese soup!

:) My Daddy is 76 also and he and my Mom went with us in November. We had to get him a scooter this year because of a back problem. Generally he is very agile like your father and does not look 76 either. I am subbing for your TR and enjoying it very much. Looking forward to the next installment. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I wore Cleo Crocs.. they've been my go-to shoes for Disney for every trip but after our second day, I ended up getting a blister on my little toe. It was awful! I put a bandaid on it and trucked on.. eventually it felt better but I'm trying to decide now if I want to wear them again or try something different on my next trip.

15 miles!? No wonder I was sore at the end of each day!

I'm not sure how accurate that pedometer is but it sure felt like the most walking we did out of all the days.

Thanks! I would love to try Nine Dragons.. that beer cheese soup is amazing!!!

I wish I could talk my dad into another trip.. even if he would need a scooter. Thanks for subbing along :) I will try to work on it moreso now that I have my scrapbook finally finished!

We had a late reservation for California Grill that night. We took the bus to MK and then the monorail over to the Contemporary. This gave my dad his very first glimpse of the castle and it was beautiful that night! We took in the amazing tree (it smelled so good!)

We made our way to check in... I asked if there was a way we could get a table with a view and they said it would be a little bit longer wait but that was fine with us. California Grill has one of the most comfortable waiting areas (nice & quiet too).

The kids were full of energy so I took them for a walk around the floor.. by the time we returned, our pager was going off.

We were brought up in the elite elevator.. I was excited to see the renovated restaurant. The wall of wine was very impressive.

The kids always look forward to what coloring page they're going to get.. well, Cali Grill is different! They brought out Etch-a-Sketches for the kids! So very cool but unfortunately he entertainment was short lived...

We put our orders in.. my sister ordered the same thing I did. She had no idea it was sushi. After she ordered she asked me what it was that she just ordered (mental head slap) I absolutely LOVE the Spicy Kazan Roll that they have here... she refuses to even try sushi. She said I could just box up her portion and take it back to the room with us (fine by me!)

It was excellent, again. Yum, yum, yum. Dad ordered the duck which was done all different ways. It was different he said. The presentation was pretty neat.

Our entrees started to arrive. Dad went with the bison.. I had a taste and yum!!! I thought it was fantastic.

I ordered the filet of beef (so did my sister.. lol). It was great! I ate every last bit of it.

Continued in the next post...

DS ordered the kid's steak and I tried a bite. Seriously, the best steak EVER. It was SO good, I was jealous. I mean mine was good but not like that... it just melted.

DD got the cheese pizza. She liked it very much. I was happy to see that it looked “normal” so now I know I can bring picky DH here on our next trip.

The kids got virgin strawberry daquiris.. yum!

Desserts were amazing... the kids both got the rice krispie sushi plates and loved them.

My sister got some kind of chocolate dessert (sorry for the awful picture.. you would've thought I drank some of that wine! Haha!) There were homemade marshmallows on the plate... soo good!

Dad & I both got the sampler.. 3 different desserts in one and it was delish! I normally don't care for desserts but this was fantastic!

We finished up, took some time out on the observation deck (we were about 30 minutes away from the fireworks scheduled time) so we decided to leave early.

We took the monorail over to MK and the fireworks started so we sat for awhile till they were over then boarded the bus to go back.

It was around 10:30 by the time everyone got to bed... we had an early morning to face, our day at AK and a question we were all wondering... would St. Nick find us in Disney?
