TR with the Man Who Said He Would NEVER Go To Disney! COMPLETE!!! 12/3-12/10 NEW 5/19

Once we were all checked in it was time to see our room. I had put in a few requests... near the lobby & near transportation were our biggest requests due to dad's age. He's in great shape but he's been having problems with his knees lately so this trip was a little scary for him. I also requested that we be near the Timon elevators. I had a done a bunch of research and these were the closest to the transportation.

We started walking towards our room. It was located on the other side (not by the transportation). We literally walked for about 7 minutes before we reached our room. I kept thinking we were on the wrong floor or something because it was taking so long. The minute we walked in the room, I was not a happy camper. There is no way we could deal with the room being that far away from the lobby. After long days at the park, I knew this walk would be terrible.

I got on the phone and called the lobby and requested that we be moved. They said that they would check if there was anything else available and call me if there was. They took my cell phone number. We decided to go to the parks... we were already behind schedule. We left our stuff in that room and started the long journey back to the lobby and to the buses. We got off the elevator right next to the lobby and my phone rang. They had found another room for us. We would need to be escorted BACK to the old room to get our stuff. I was told that my magic band would not work because they had already transferred the info to the new room. I told everyone to just take a seat in the lobby and I would take care of getting our stuff (we only had a few sweatshirts & purses in the room). I was told to go up to the room and bell services would be up there to help me with everything.

On my way back up to the room I came across bell services at another room. The man barely spoke English. I asked if he was the one that was coming to my room to help and he didn't know... so I just continued onto the room. To my surprise, I was able to get in with my Magic Band. I grabbed all of our stuff and started hauling butt towards the lobby when I ran into the bell service guy... I told him no need to help and kept going.. lol.

Once I reached the lobby we took the elevator to the right and we were one floor up, 2 doors down. It was PERFECT!

Here are some pictures from the hallway walking and room...

By this point, I had my workout for the day. I needed to change into some shorts before we headed to the park.

My dad and sister kept saying how I didn't have to call and change our room but by the 2nd & 3rd days of going to the parks, they thanked me over and over for speaking up. I'm sure glad I did too.

We were finally on our way! Hollywood Studios, here we come! By now it was 4:30pm.

When we stepped off the buses, we enjoyed the view for a bit...

My dad did not want to wear a belt (due to flying and having to take it off during security).. so he wore these pants that he bought right before we left. By this point, he was having issues keeping them up. We tried to do a make shift belt and poke another hole into the pants so he could make them tighter but no luck so he ended up walking around holding them up for the majority of the night.. lol.

This is my favorite tree in all of Disney. It's just beautiful! We entered the park (MB's worked flawlessly!) and made our way towards Fantasmic.

We got our first picture taken in front of Tower of Terror. The CM was very talkative (a bit too much.. I was in a hurry! lol...)

After she took this picture, she told me to get out of the picture... she wanted one with JUST grandma & grandpa. Haha!!! She thought my sister was married to my dad! Okay, this is NOT the only time on this trip that this mistake would be made. Luckily, my sister is not easily offended. She just laughed. I seriously think it was more of a compliment for my dad than an insult to my sister. He does not look like he's 76.

We were starving. I had originally planned to buy something in the airport but prices kept me from doing that. We had a ton of snack credits (70 to be exact) to use up so we bought some food once we entered the amphitheater.

We sat to the left since all the middle seats are now reserved for dining packages.

DS had been planning on making his own light saber in DTD... then he saw the Mickey light up ones for sale at Fantasmic and just HAD TO HAVE ONE.

DD got a pair of Glow with the Show ears..

The show was about to begin...

My dad got a kick out of how that place filled up so quickly. The stupid preshow began. I'm sorry but I can't stand those guys that go around playing “Finish that Song”... I'd rather they don't do a preshow and just let everyone do the wave like they used to. That was so much more fun.

The show was great as usual. Everyone really enjoyed it.

Afterwards we waited about 10 minutes until it was pretty cleared out and then we made our way out.

It was now time to EAT! Finally! Time to introduce dad to some Disney FOOD!!!

Starting off GREAT! Can't wait to read more!!!
Yay!! :thumbsup2
Aww it sounds like your Dad is really enjoying going to Disney :)

What a pain about the bus journey but it sounds as though you got a nice welcome :goodvibes
:)
Can't wait to read more!!!!
Can't wait to post more!
Wonderful pics! :)
Thank you! I will also have video following each full day... if I don't remember to post them, remind me! lol...

I'm glad you were able to get a room that worked for your family! That's really a benefit to going in the slower seasons!

I'm glad you were able to get the room you wanted! One of the benefits of going in the slow season!

I've never complained about anything in Disney before so it felt weird calling the front desk but I'm so glad I did. If it were just me and my own family, we would've gladly accepted our location but my dad would not have made it. I could see him cancelling out on a day just because of the walk to the buses.

I'm so pleased you were able to change your room and how appreciative your sister and dad were :)

I'm so sorry there have not been any updates lately. On Monday, my computer died... with all of my pictures from our trip on it! 3 days in the shop and they were able to fix it but my week has been pretty eventful to say the least. Let's hope things calm down and I can get back to it soon :)

Came over to your trip report from your dining report! We were there around the same time (nov 30-dec 3rd) at POFQ. What a special trip, great that you got to do this with your dad! We went with my dad in the year after my mom passed (2.5 years ago) and was very special for him to be there with my girls.

It was a great time to be there. So sorry about your mom :( It's such a rough thing to go through... this trip meant more to me than he'll ever know :)

I am back! I've been dealing with a lot of stress (work related)... I hope it's all over with at this point. The only good thing to come of it was losing 12 pounds! lol.. My pictures are ready to be posted so get ready for some updates!!! I will try to get a post done today :)

As we were making our way out of the theater they were playing Nsync's “Merry Christmas Happy Holidays” song. It totally got me in the Christmas mood. The crowd wasn't too bad.. we made our way back into the park and started over towards Sci-Fi for our first Disney meal.

I was so excited to see Osborne Lights... we were so close to it (just around the corner) but I wanted to keep that for after our meal so we headed into Sci-Fi :)

We checked in and took a seat. I made sure to request a car.

We looked over the menu and waited a few minutes before our name was called.

The minute we turned the corner, I could tell that my dad & sister were going to love this place. My dad grew up in the 50's. Old cars are his thing. I grew up with a 1951 Ford Convertible in the garage. I went to car shows with my dad so I grew up with that car. He sold it a few years ago and bought a 1956 Fairlane Convertible. Anyways, the ambiance of this restaurant is fantastic. The drive in theater feel is great and I love how quiet it is. For a Disney restaurant, I think this is as quiet as you're going to get (besides V&A's).

Our waitress was fantastic. She took my camera and took pictures around the restaurant and of us in the car. She then thanked me for giving her the camera and began to walk away.. lol.

The food came out fairly quickly and it was delish! It wasn't too much for our first meal and gave everyone a good idea of what to expect on this trip (appetizer, entree, dessert at every meal!) Yikes! The Deluxe Dining Plan is way too much fun. I highly recommend it if you love food :)

If you want details on the food, you can check out my dining report (the link is in my signature below). I'll just post the pics here...

We paid using the dining plan (magic bands were SO convenient)... I really, REALLY liked them. We decided early on to split the tips so each time we did a meal we rotated who used their dining credits to pay... they would get their magic band scanned and then the tip would go under their name so we could easily decipher everything at the end.

We walked out of the restaurant and into the most beautiful display I've ever seen at Disney.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights... seriously one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen at Walt Disney World. It wasn't crowded at all (perfect timing)... we stood in amazement for a few minutes and made our way over to the Photopass photographer.

As we were waiting in line for our picture we noticed the snow falling from the top of the buildings. I can handle that snow... it's nothing like the stuff in Wisconsin.

My daughter loved the snow..

They made the announcement that the light show was over for the night so we started making our way out of the park.

After returning home, my dad talks about this the most and how much my mom would've loved it. She loved Christmas lights sooo much. She would drive us around at night just to look at houses when I was little.

I would say the first day was a success. We had a lot of fun and it wasn't too intense for everyone. A great start to the trip!

You're so lucky to see the lights with low crowds and I love your PP photo :goodvibes

What a great first day I'm so glad your dad enjoyed himself xx

He really did. Even looking back on it now, he said that was his favorite day, the day we arrived.

You're so lucky to see the lights with low crowds and I love your PP photo :goodvibes

Thanks!!! We were lucky to see it with low crowds! I can't imagine that area being packed!

Looking forward to more! Dont you just love Disney at Christmas!?

LOVE it! I am a huge fan of the Halloween season at Disney but Christmas really was just gorgeous!!! I'll return someday :)

Day 2... like I told my dad, the minute you board the plane, your trip is half over. It goes by soooo fast! It really does! Today would be our first FULL day. Everyone would get a taste (literally) of what the deluxe dining plan is (3 table service reservations!) and what pure exhaustion feels like. Yippee!!! We were returning to HS for the day. Ideally, MK would've been my choice but I was unable to book a BOG or Ohana for any of the nights until our last 2 there. Reservations are getting difficult!!! That was WITH taking advantage of the 180+10 option!

We woke up early (I want to say 6:30am or so). The bed was SO comfortable. When I got home, I made it a point to look up what kind of mattresses they are. When we upgraded to our king last month, we bought the same kind and I love it!

Our elf Jingles had followed us to Disney! That sneaky little guy hitched a ride with Dasher so he could keep an eye on our room. The first morning he brought the kids homemade autograph books.

Everyone got ready and we were out the door by 7:15am. Here's everyone enjoyed their time at the bus stop.

I love the tv's with the wait time estimates. These were being tested on our last trip at the Grand Floridian. I'm not sure if they have them at every resort yet but they sure are nice!

We had the bus to ourselves :)

We got to enjoy the tree in the daylight... it's just so stunning. The kids took a picture in front of it.

We got in line for the early breakfast reservations and waited about 10 minutes before someone came down and checked us in. It was another 5 minutes or so until we were let into the park.

Originally we had a Cape May reservation for this morning. It would've allowed us maybe an hour in the park but then we would've had to go over to the Beach Club taking a ton of time away... I nabbed this reservation about a week before we left and I was so thrilled! This place has turned into a staple for us just to get into HS early. Our name was called after a few minutes of waiting outside and we were off. Here's my sister checking out all the choices...

The characters started making their way around. Handy Manny was first.

Then Oso.

The food was fantastic.

I really enjoy the breakfast burrito station.

June.

DS took my camera and got a picture of us..

I wish the new characters would've been here but we were a bit too early for that. We never did get to see Jake. He took too long to get to our table and I didn't want to waste anymore time waiting (we've met him before anyways). With the first meal of the day done, we made our way over to Toy Story Mania, my favorite.

I scored 153,800. That's about the average everytime I go on this ride. Everyone else got lower than 100,000... lol, they were blown away by my score. Everyone had a good time and really enjoyed this ride.

I had breakfast at Hollywood and Vine for the first time in December, and I enjoyed it. I'm a little disappointed June is gone. Little Einsteins was my nephew's favorite show for a long time (he just turned 3), and when we were there, he kept watching June circulate around the room with a big smile on his face.

Next up we decided to go to the Great Movie Ride. I thought my dad would enjoy this with all of the old movie references...

We took our time walking through the line.. there were not many people waiting. Soon we were on our way!

Dad really loved the gun fight scene. Afterwards we headed over towards Star Tours. I always start to feel sick on this ride by the end of it so I gave everyone else a good warning.

It was warm out... we decided to take a break at Starring Rolls and get some cupcakes & drinks.

We had the gingerbread & red velvet cupcakes. Both were so yummy and we couldn't finish them between the 5 of us. The ice cold milk tasted the best! We headed over to the Animation Building next... Sofia's line was insanely long (and outside) so we nixed that (DD was actually okay with that) but we HAD to meet Wreck It Ralph. Luckily, the line was INSIDE so I didn't really care how long it was.

The décor was just fantastic in this area. The only complaint is that they should have WORKING Wreck it Ralph games in my opinion. The wait ended up being about 30 minutes. My dad & sister took a seat out in the main area while I stood in line.

I was also disappointed that there was no Photopass photographer. Ralph kept pointing at DS's shirt because it had him on it. Vanellope was laughing the whole time. They were adorable.

We got in line for the drawing lesson. My dad was not thrilled about doing this (I knew he wouldn't like the idea of it). The wait seemed to take forever. They really need more seating out there... it gets crowded.

This was DS's first time doing it.. he was excited.

We ended up drawing Minnie (or Mickey if you wanted to leave off the bow). Everyone did great! My dad was impressed with how well his turned out and in the end, he was glad he did it.

We walked outside and DD wanted to buy a Clover since she wasn't going to get to meet Sofia. Just then, Sofia was walking away so we did get to wave to her...

It was getting warmer and more crowded. I knew at this point that we wouldn't be able to make it throughout the day without a break. I decided to take a quick intermission and head back to the resort for awhile. We didn't have lunch until 3pm at 50's Prime Time so we had a few hours to just relax and recharge.

The resort time was fantastic. I don't know why I didn't build that into my original plans to begin with.

It's amazing how fast the kids learned the route from the bus to the room.

We love, love, LOVED the ease of opening the door with our magic bands!!!

I was beginning to feel a bit ripped off with our savanna view.. lol, no animals...

After we were well rested, we headed back to the the Studios for our lunch at 50's Prime Time.

My sister couldn't pass up the chance to get a photo with the tree on our way back in .

We saw these guys on our way in..

We were a bit early (by about 40 minutes or so)... I tried to check in but they said not until 15 minutes prior. No problem. We found a seat for my dad and sister.. Hollywood & Vine was serving cold water & “lemon” water.

I took the opportunity to go to the stores... get some pictures taken with the kids and just bum around..

I had a friend back home that wanted me to buy the Tower of Terror Clue game if I found it and I did! I didn't want to carry it around so I decided to come back for it later. The kids did some pin trading and before we knew it, we were headed back over to 50's to check in.

We were told to take a seat.. well there were none available. A super nice couple got up from the couch and let my dad & sister sit down.. so sweet! We took the time to check out the menu and start planning on what to order.

Gotta love the décor...

About 15 minutes later a waitress came out yelling our name... time for dinner! We were seated at a table/booth in the middle of the restaurant. Our orders came quickly and everything was amazing... here's some pics of the food:

DD was given the viewmaster with desserts on it. The kids had a blast with this.

There were a few older couples sitting next to us and one of the guys made a comment to me that he didn't know how on earth "we" were going to finish that dessert.. haha... we had a wonderful meal at 50's Prime Time. It definitely filled us up and the service was fantastic. My dad says this was one of his favorites during the trip :)
