TR: Moving to WDW and Earning your Ears! (This is Goodbye) 9/19

Welcome to the TR!!!

As of today: 8/14, my brother (Dbro) is all moved in and settled in FL.

It has been a week since we arrived in FL and I've already been home for 3 days..super sad!!

This is our journey as we traveled from Cincinnati, OH to Orlando, FL for him to begin his Disney World College Program (CP), move to FL, and start earning his ears!!!

Background info:

As of today 8/14, my Dbro is settled into his apt in FL and has begun training at his Epcot Attraction!!

Dates: Fri 8/6-Tues 8/10
Resort: Yacht Club
Dining: Basic DDP
Park: 1 day park hopper

..this TR is our story, our adventure, and our tears of my brother starting his CP and me recalling my programs nearly 2 years ago!!

I would just like to preface this by saying that I had this whole page typed up and hit some key and it erased the whole thing
With that being said this will be the shortened version of that as I had been working on the other version for a half hour before it was erased

THURS: 8/5

The night before we left was super crazy! We had had a nice family dinner (Thanksgiving style!) and Dbro's last request was to go to Kings Island--our local amusement park--before we left the following day! We went and got home after 11pm and at 11:30pm, I still had not packed, showered, and slept! Dbro had not packed at all..it was a long night!!

FRI:8/6

I worked 9-2 that day and we planned on leaving by 3pm. Of course that didn't happen when Dbro had to pack + do homework for his online Master's classes + sleep!!

I had checked my email before we left to find a new email from WDW about our new reservation #. I figured it was a reminder about our stay but my CM friend (who got us the room discount) texted me later on and said she had a surprise for us!

By 3pm, we were saying goodbyes!!

Dbro and I:

Dad had met them for lunch to say goodbye since he had afternoon meetings.

By 3:30pm, we said our millionth goodbye and drove off!!

10 mins down the road, Dbro says he forgot his purple folder that had his CP acceptance info in it. We decided if he needed it, it could be faxed to YC

10 mins after that we hit traffic in Cinncinati and after a 45 min delay we got to the city!

We crossed a bridge out of the city and were in:

We stopped for gas and got some Coke Zeros when Dbro realized he also forgot his dress shoes = very important to have for traditions class and training It was our mission to find a Famous Footwear in GA or FL for new shoes!

After a bit we finally crossed into:

We decided to stop at Shoney's for dinner by 8 but there wasn't one till 8:30 so we were pretty much starving by that point!

We were upset to walk in and find our glorious buffet from May 2009 was a seafood buffet on Friday..no big deal, we still chowed!
Our server was great, she only charged us for 1 drink, 1 seafood buffet, and 1 salad bar buffet..she got a good tip

After another stop for gas we were on our way, 2.5 hours from our aunt' house in eastern Atlanta!

We got to GA in the dark and after 4 attempts at GA welcome pic, I settled for this:

We missed 2 turns getting to the house but we made it just after 12am:

We were greeted with Dominoes pizza, cake, and ice cream. We chowed again and were passed out by 1:30am!

The plan the next day was to leave by 9am and get to WDW by 4:30, would we make it?????

Jumping in!! I love road tripping and the one down I75 to Florida is one of my very favorites! I haven't been to a Shoney's in years! I didn't even know they were still around! It's such a boy thing not to be packed for a 6 month thing till the night before and to forget his dress shoes. Shame on him! How nice that your aunt had food waiting too! Perfect stop off!

Can't wait for more (and especially hearing what ride your brother is working!)

AN UPDATE FROM BRO

Hi Dis Friends, as I stated in my Oct PTR, I don't normally update on weekdays but since I was updating that one, why not this one!

I figured this could be the post in which you guess where you think Dbro is working at!

I was going to wait till the end of the TR but with some of your trips coming up, I figured that maybe it would be cool to know...or guess haha!!

Clues:
1: Park: Epcot
2: East side of the park
3: Choices include: Spaceship Earth, Ellen's Energy, Mission Space, Test Track, and Nemo
4. It's a "get-in, let it rip" ride

and those are your hints!! GOOD LUCK!!!


As for in other news, Dbro has already had one minor heart attack since being there. As he was DD'ing last night for some friends at House of Blues in DTD, he put his license in his CM lanyard and his license slipped out

He was a major wreck at work all day my mom said. My poor mom spent hours on the phone with Ohio DMV, airport officials, etc.
Pretty much the outcome of the lost license was: it would take 3 to 5 weeks to request a new Ohio one = dbro can't drive his car, fly home for 24 hours to get a new one, drive home for the 2 days he's off to get a new one, and would have to use his birth cert/ss card to get through airport security. Pretty much it was a mess...

but, when Dbro got off at 2:45, he opened the car door and saw something shiny on the floor of his car and there was his license..talk about a sigh of relief!!!

Other than that he has been settling in great! He has already met some great friends and LOVES his job. He even told me yesterday that he got to make his own personal mark somewhere on his ride!!! Of course if I tell you where it is, it will give it away!!

He is also doing a CM backstage magic tour of Haunted Mansion next week!!

I can't imagine! Even to get a FL license now it is way harder than when I got mine 2 years ago. You need like 2 different types of proof that you live there plus a rental agreement so I would not even want to think about how crazy that would get!

The Past Week's Updates

Happy Saturday Dis Friends!!!

Life has been soooo busy this week! I'll start off by saying that I got my results from my Praxis and failed AGAIN by 5 points. I had a major meltdown on Tues night after finding this out. I had worked very hard to not pass again. After thinking things through, I've decided to retake the exam on Sept 18 (yes less than a month away ) but back at the college I went to. I had been taking it at a college near the house where we lived but now that we have relocated here, I figured if we need a hotel why not go to my former college..perhaps it will give me good vibes and 7 is my "lucky number" so maybe it will work out? If not, I've also signed up for a test in Nov.

I also found out last week that my co-teacher in Pre-K is moving to the kindergarten room leaving me alone which is sad but in the "real world" of teaching, I'll be alone anyways so why not get used to it? I've been busy this week preparing for next week alone!


IT'S TEST TRACK BABY!!!!

And I quote from wonderful STACEY, "IT'S A GET IN, STRAP IN, LET IT RIP RIDE, THAT PUTS YOU IN A TEST CAR, RUNS IT THROUGH IT'S PACES ON ONE OF THE LONGEST, FASTEST RIDE IN WDW!!!!!"

Yes, most of you guessed right! It was Test Track!!! In fact, Dbro's assessment of the ride was this morning. We have not yet heard if he passed or not but hopefully he did

And as in typical WDW CP fashion, he starts his first day alone tomorrow working 10-10

Oh ya, and he got to put is initials on a dry-erase board (in the environmental chambers) in the ride so look for a CSW!!!
