TP and FOP

Can someone help me figure out what to do? We don't have a FP for FOP so will rope drop it. When I enter this into TP and optimize, it always puts it somewhere else in the day with an hour and a half wait at least. I keep putting it first but it's not staying there. What do I do? I know with EMH we'll probably ride within an hour of rope drop at 8 AM. We are going on June 5 which, right now, is a 6. Should I just fill the first hour or two as a break or not arriving till 9:30? Thanks

I don’t know the answer but I think your problem is using “optimize”
Why don’t you ask on the Touring Plans Forums?

Are entering with the general public or with EMH?

You can always use the evaluate button instead of optimize.

Didn't realize this existed. Thanks

Wouldn't I have to have my plan set up myself to evaluate? I would prefer to have TP tell me where to go.

Enter all that you want to do and then hit optimize. Look over the plan and move things around if you would prefer a different order. Then use the Evaluate button from then on and it will update your wait times. If you Optimize it is going to change the order to what the program feels is best. That may not be in your families best interest.

This is exactly what I had to do. We wanted to walk on Navi and it kept putting it somewhere that didn’t make sense. I got the rest of the plan in the order I wanted to minimize walking, plugged in FP, then moved Navi to the top and clicked Evaluate instead of Optimize.

Thanks. I'll try this. Must be some sort of bug in their software. I've used TP many times before but never with difficulty. You'd think without a FP it would automatically send you there first thing.

Touring plans or not...to ride FoP without a FP your best bets are:

A) arrive an hour before rope drop and then head straight there
B) get in line as close to park closing as you can

If you're entering the park during an EMH morning and you're not on site, then I would get in line at night

Do you mean you'll get in line sometime during that hour or you think you'll be able to ride it within that hour? Are you onsite and planning on being at AK by 7:15 or so or are you onsite and planning on being at AK around 8:00?

I don't think TP can figure in when you plan to be at the park to optimize your wait time, and that's why they move it later.

I was having all kinds of trouble with it today. I justed wanted to see if the few remaining things we wanted to do would fit in the 2 hours we had to do them. I had an FP for FOP and it would not use it. I made sure the times lined up, I clicked the option to force FP use and it just would not use it. The algorithm was convinced it was better to wait 100 mins for the ride rather than use the FP. It was driving me nuts.

Is it possible you set hours you would be in the park and the FP was outside of that timeframe? That would cause that to happen

It was in the afternoon of an existing plan so that wasn't it. The hours had long ago been set for 9 to 9. I have accidentally entered in the FP time as the wrong am/pm in the past and I just triple checked that and that wasn't the problem either. I don't know what the issue was.

Yes, We are staying at AOA and plan to be there about 7 for 8 AM rope drop. We will head straight to FOP and hopefully ride within the hour. But it looks like the crowd calendar rating went up again. TP gives an 8 AM option but maybe it doesn't calculate arriving early for RD. I do wish it would give this as an option.

Me too. I also had FP's and checked the force use option and it still didn't use them. I know those times may not be the best or most convenient, but when you are planning 6 weeks out on crowd rating days of 8 and 9, you get what you can.

I went down this rabbit hole recently and I found the answer in the comment section on their YouTube page (sorry I don't have the source). This is in regards to riding it later in the morning, not regarding the fast pass situation. I'm not sure about that.

What was said was that there is a slight dip in the wait time in the morning, so their algorithm is telling people to ride then, but you are supposed to disregard this advice and ride it at rope drop. Apparently they are working on fixing their math problems.

Thank you! I'll check into it further.

TP is most problematic with rope drop, I've found. They don't know how fast you're going to be, so the expected wait is typically a lot higher than it will actually be. I also really hate the Optimize feature. It almost always does something really weird that makes no sense.

Yes it acts weird occasionally for me too. I usually just put in what I want, when I want if I know it will work.

Yeah, I usually just use evaluate to get an estimate of how long lines will be and how long it will take to walk. If find early wait times too high and later wait times too low, in general. I haven't done a lot of research into this, but it seems like we get ahead of schedule at first and then start to fall behind. Anyway, I think it's mainly good for getting an idea of how your schedule might go, but I find it pretty terrible if I let it attempt to organize the day.
