Toy Story Mania

Maybe its just me but that is dumb! So the park opens at 9:30 and you run to get in line at TSM and its not even open till 10:00?????:confused3

Well only Soarin is open at 9:30. The rest of the park is roped off. Guests are kept around Sunshine Plaza and Soarin for 30 minutes. So you can ride Soarin or crowd around one of the ropes. Then at 10:00, the ropes are dropped and everyone is allowed into the rest of the park. This will probably result in a mad rampage to TSMM. Someone's bound to get trampled!

Yep, it's going to be very much like Nemo at rope drop. People will be running like mad to the Pier and CMs will be yelling at them to walk. :sad2:

I heard they do something with ToT where they pick the first family of the day at the rope, and then the CM walks with that family to the attraction at rope drop and everyone else stays behind them (which forces them to walk too). I wonder if they will do something similar with TSMM to prevent a stampede.

I've been out of it for a little bit... But how many people load at a time that single rider is feasable?

We were part of that for IASW when it opened after the fireworks. Such a civilized way to do things! And since hubby and I are rule-followers, I think we walked even slower than the backwards-walking CM. The CMs had been enjoying my son, so they even made sure my hubby had time to stash the stroller but still make it back to me and my son to be the first in line.

But you also might not believe what blankety-blanks people can be about getting to a ride, and how many CMs they would likely need to control a crowd for that distance. Going from where they rope off in front of IASW (when it's not being refurbed) for the fireworks to the entrance to the line was hard enough for the CMs!

I'm still not sure I can agree with the no SR line thing. Sounds more like they have it closed to keep from *mis-use* of it. To keep from arguments when families are suddenly surprised that they are indeed going to be split up, as I hear happens often. (arguments, I mean)

If a family that doesn't fill the car is loaded, they either need a Single to fill in, or they are sending out a less than full car. Sending out a less than full car is silly, and if they don't have the Single line open then they have to call out for Singles in the regular line, which takes up TIME to get them to come forward (IF they are even doing that).

The Single line at CA Screamin doesn't hold that many people either, but it's brilliant when it works right (hubby was in it when it did NOT work right)!

We were lucky enough to get to ride TSMM three times between Friday, Saturday & Sunday during their soft openings. :yay: :yay: :yay: We knew, even with a 45 minute wait, it would probably be the shortest line for this ride for a very long time.

It is a really fun ride!! :thumbsup2 And it is the type of ride you will want to repeat often to improve your abilities.

It needs Fast Pass.

Gail, it's just past California Screamin' on the Midway.

Thank goodness we did the "soft" opening on Sunday. Lines today were up to 6 hours long (no kidding!) and then the ride shut down. Imagine being in line that long, and then having to leave.

i had to do this for the animal kingdom new one two or three years ago. everest
it broke down after 4hours and we were so close..i was mad. we had a ticket for free pic so we picked a place and took the bus over to the other ride. got our free pic and was happy still sucks never got to ride it

We got to DCA about 10:10 this morning and walked back to get in line for TSMM. There were a lot of people walking, but I didn't see anybody running.

The line started at the edge of the boardwalk/bridge (before Ariel's Grotto). The CMs told us 1½-2 hours wait from that point. They were still working on opening the queue down by the ride, so the first part went very quickly, but it was very hot!

Altogether, we were in line for 1 hour, 45 minutes - longer than I think I've ever waited for anything! The ride was fantastic, though, and I didn't feel like I'd wasted my time.

Of course, we were also in the park just to ride TSMM, and we went knowing it could be very long. One of the CMs told us that at one point yesterday, the line went to Tower of Terror.

OK ya get in the park at 9:30. Where do we go to wait for the rope drop thats the closest route to TSM?

We want to be right up there. I really want to ride this ride and Im not going to wait longer than an hour.

I plan to get breakfast to go at McDonalds and get to the park around 8am.

I wonder, how much difference there will be in TSMM in DCA vs. WDW? I think I am going to wait and see it later in the year. I get two more chances to see it in WDW later this year. I will wait til then.

So its the 3rd day since the ride officially opened. If anybody here went, care to share how bad the lines were?

Sorry - I'm confused. Is there, or is there not, fastpasses for TSM?

When do they start giving out Fastpasses for Soarin'? Is it after 10:00, or at 9:30 when the ride opens? It seems like almost a waste to skip Soarin' to wait in the line for TSM. Any opinions on this? We're not ones for waiting long in any line - the kids get too fussy.

There is NO FP for TSMM.

Soarin FP machines are turned on at 9:30. I suppose some of you could head to rope drop to wait for TSMM while a runner went and got FPs for Soarin.

If your kids get fussy in long lines, I would recommend skipping TSMM altogether. The lines for this ride will be quite long (not to mention incredibly HOT) all summer and fall.

I'll be interested to read about people who try to get into line at DCA closing time to see what kind of wait times they experience. This method worked really well for our family on Nemo.

Thanks, DangerMouse!

I think that we'll try getting into line before closing. I'll be sure to check with the CMs to see what time they will cut off the line beforehand, just to make sure we'll get on.

My sister called me a little before 1pm this afternoon and they are there and at that time of day the wait was just about an hour so considering afternoon and new ride don't think it is to bad?

I'm sure the almost 100 degree temps is helping as well.

Good News! I just read on another board that the SINGLE RIDER line opened last night. Just ask a CM!

Sorry, DH, but I will want to see as much of DCA as possible when there. So I guess we are doing single rider! :rotfl:

I just read this post from Darkbeer over on MP, and thought it was VERY helpful regarding early morning line-ups for TSMM:

Note, they have a SPECIAL line that is now forming at the Sunshine Plaza area for Toy Story Mania!, if you go to the Grizzly River Run area, you won't get in the Toy Story Mania! line until all the folks who waited in the Sunshine Plaza area area "walked" over to the front of the queue area.

So if you want to be one of the first inline, get to the Main DCA turnstiles early (9 AM'ish) and then when the DCA turnstiles open at 9:30 AM, follow the signs (I understand staying to the right is the thing to do) to get into the special TSM! queue area. If you want to use the DCA entrance, once you get past the turnstiles, go towards the Sunshine Plaza area, looking for the TSM! queue area.

Get in line, THEN talk to folks....

So, I am staying at Grand Californian, does this mean I should not enter through hotel, but enter through main entrance as this is the only way to Sunshine Plaza? This is our first time at the park. Do they then let you in at 9:30 or 9:00?

You can still get to Sunshine Plaza through the GCH private entrance, however, it is a bit of a longer walk than from the main gates, so it may put you at a disadvantage.

They open the gates at 9:30 and then have rope drop at 10.
