I stopped by Toys R Us today to pick up a gate to keep my puppies out of my kitchen. I saw a little booklet that said "Toy Guide for the Differently Abled". It has pages of toys with symbols that say what kind of skills they work on (social, gross and fine motor, visual, tactile, etc.) They also had a flyer with "10 Toys that Speak to Autism". They gave me an entire stack of booklets and flyers to take back with me to the other students in the special ed master's I'm doing. These would be great resources for any parent of a differently abled child (I love that phrase)

::yes::
That is a really good resource. They have done those guides for a long time (although I can't remember how long) and they have always been very good. There is a also an online version of the current guide. It's done in conjunction with a non-profit group called the National Lekotek Center - a place just about toys for children with special needs.
I've also been impressed that Toys R Us has continued to feature children with disabilities in their ads and catalogs. You saw that 10 yrs ago in a lot of ads, but the children with disabilities gradually disappeared from most of the ads, except for Toys R Us.

Thanks for posting the link Sue! I was trying to find it on their website to share with the people in my elem ed class since I don't have enough for them.
