Tower of Terror w/o the drop?

Someone told me that it's possible to ride UP the ToT & then get OFF of the elevator before it drops, taking an alternative way down. Has anyone else heard this also? Is it true &, if so, how do you arrange for that?

Thanks!

It's possible to do the "pre-ride" - up to the point where you're loaded into the elevator. There's no way to ride the elevator and exit before the drop. Unless they've changed things since I was last there...

I agree with the 2nd poster. You can do the pre ride and get out of line before boarding the elevator. But there is no way to get off once the ride starts. Sounds like someone is trying to trick you into going on the ride. :teeth:

The chicken exit is a regular elevator. Maybe this is what they were talking about?

That's right.

But (as others have said) you much choose to exit BEFORE ever boarding the actual "ride" elevator.

Once you're belted in to THAT one... you're going to DO IT ALL! :goodvibes

BTW, anyone can choose to NOT ride ANY attraction at WDW... BEFORE boarding the ride vehicle.

Even if you've stood in a 45-70 minute queue-line, once you reach the boarding area, you can tell the CM you've decided not to ride.

No problem. :thumbsup2

If the ride operators sense something is being done with could endanger the riders, or if one of the sensors picks up something irregular, the ride will not go into the drop mode, it will simply be lowered to the exit. Perhaps this happened to the person the op was talking to.

Great! Lots of responses on this!

Another question ... is the preshow/pre-ride simply the queue line or is it also something you ride on to get to the top of ToT?

Can you tell I know pretty much nothing about this ride except that there's a terrible drop?! But I've heard that the effects preceding the drop are pretty good. I'm just wondering if all the wimps in our party (including me!) can see these effects & then get out or if it's all-or-nothing.

The audio and visual effects preceding the drop sequence are outstanding. To take in the whole preshow, however, you'll also have to experience the drops. I think the anticipation of the drops is worse than the actual ride. The sensation is actually quite pleasant. BTW, drop is somewhat of a misnomer since motors pull the elevators down faster than gravity would.

You can walk through the hotel, then go into a little room. After that show you will exit into another line in a " boiler room" looking setting. This is the line for the ride elevators and you will need to exit when you get to the front of the line. Do not board that elevator unless you want to drop.

I love this ride, but wish that there was a no drop elevator for my mom.

Neither.

The first thing you see when you enter the "hotel" from the outside queue is the dusty/musty old deserted lobby (very cool!)

Then, all guests enter the "library" (nicely creepy in itself) where someone (very important and special "someone") tells you about the hotel, and why you are about to be taken to your room by a maintenance service elevator.

Then, everyone files out of the library via a "hidden panel" and shuffles slowly through a GREAT-looking dark, old, "boiler room" (actually, the interior ride-queue).

After you reach the loading CMs ("bell-hops") you can just say that you've decided NOT to ride, and they will take you to a nice clean, bright, "office elevator" that will take you to the ride exit/gift shop level where you can wait for the rest of your party.

No, you can do the pre show, but it's not an actual ride, it's just the queue line. Just the whole feel of the Tower and the scenery are worth going through the queue line, as well as the "bell hops", because there are some that are so in character, they send shivers down your spine!

What your friends were talking about, the effects before the ride, ARE part the actual ride tho, so you cannot have that without the drop.

It really does sound like they're trying to trick you into going on the ride! :teeth:

I am finally considering this ride this year, what sensation does it produce when you drop? Someone on here describied it as 'quite pleasant'.

LOL....that really depends on the individual. I think it's more than 'quite pleasant'!
It feels like....well....like you're on an elevator that suddenly drops, while your heart is still up there in the clouds! It's absolutely thrilling and breathtaking!

You've ridden a REAL elevator.
When it goes down you feel "lighter"... on your feet... and in your stomach.

The ToT 'vators drop (several times, in fact) at MUCH greater speeds
(faster than "free-fall").

You are SEATED in the ToT ride elevator, but you still feel it in your stomach.

And you WILL "float" out of your (seat-belted) seat.

THIS

IS

A

GREAT

RIDE!

I've never felt "queasy" afterwards.

Its just plain EXCITING (and fun!)

cute stitch avatar!

anyone else wish they'd offer a milder version (ala mission space) with 1 elevator that drops only once vs the random multiple drops?

Worked for many years in a high-rise, elevators were ancient...always got that sinking sensation when they started downwards with a lurch & lots of times missed the floor by @ least six inches....
I am a scardy cat.:cat:

Well, no.
If someone is afraid of 4 drops, why would they NOT be afraid of ONE?

(Which, BTW, is the way the ride WAS in the beginning.)

I wish they'd just offer it w/ NO drops ... or a slow, gentle ride to the bottom!

Ha, ha, ha ... glad I could add a little laughter to your day. I'll be the 1st to admit I'm a whus (however it's spelled) & don't enjoy the thrilling rides, although I used to back in the day (I'm a whole 38 yrs old now!). That's why I love Disney so much ... they have so many enjoyable rides to choose from that don't make your stomach convulse, twist, clench, move up & down & side to side!!! Now if only they'd accomodate the weenies like me & GIVE ME A DOWN ELEVATOR THAT DOESN'T PUSH ME BACK TO THE EARTH!!!!!
