Tower of Terror question

Even if you got completely out of your seat, where would you go? You are in a cage as another poster said. You would have to climb up and out of the cage.

You could sit on the floor and be fine.

You could fly right out the open front... if you flew out at the same time that the doors to the outside were open!

Is it true that there is a certain seat known as a jump seat or a seat that give you more of a butt off the seat feeling. I thought I had read that on these forums somewhere but can't find it now. I would like to avoid that seat next time. I believe I was in it 2 years ago and I can never remember being as terrified like that before. Lol

When there were bars instead of seatbelts, the center seat in the back row had a seatbelt only. Now all seats have seatbelts. That center seat is probably still a little scarier since you don't have anything in front of you.

If somehow your seatbelt failed as it was dropping, you would probably go up and hit the ceiling. I don't see how you could be propelled forward. I think ToT is over 15 years old and no one has ever got hurt!

you wouldn't go that high! the most I have ever risen out of my seat is a couple inches. Do realize the force that would be needed to propel you up to the ceiling! :scared1: not happening on this ride.

Yes, that was a joke-I'm way too heavy to fly out the window! I might worry about my very tiny granddaughters, though!

As the other responses have noted, there are indeed bars to hang onto on each side of your seat. However, my daughter and I ride this with our hands up and the seat belt functions as our only restraint, and we don't go anywhere. The bars will help you if you're feeling anxious, but rest assured that the belt will hold you just fine.

On average, only 8 people annually are flung to their deaths from the highest point of ToT due to not being held in securely enough.

Given the number of people who ride that ride every day, those odds seem reasonable :confused3

If you are very skinny, though, you might want to embark on a diet of soda and cheeseburgers before you go, just to give the seatbelt something to grab :thumbsup2

What??? :scared1:  :worried: :faint:

I find that I feel safer on it with the seatbelts. When it was just the bar, I would frequently leave my seat (due to being smaller than those beside me). Now I am much more strapped in.

*misses the lap bar for a more thrilling ride*

Just don't tighten the seat belt. I always extend it out all the way and then latch it without pulling it tighter. you can leave it very loose, but you still only lift up a few inches.

The seat belts are actually more restrictive than the old bars. In the past, if you had someone larger next to you or managed to put your bag in front of you (w/o a CM catching it) you would end up with space between you and the bar and could get some great lift off - actually get your bottom off the seat - on the drops. Unfortunately, the seat belts don't allow for that leeway.

I rode my first time when I was 14. My mom wouldn't go with me so I had to go alone. It was back in the lap bar era and I was not a happy camper when I got off. :rolleyes1 It took my husband literally forcing me on to it in 2007 to get me to go back. Now it is one of my favorites.

Much happier with the seat belts. BUT...I do try to keep that seatbelt up a bit....usually put something under it so prevent it's tightening all the way, until the door close. I left something a wee bit too big once, and I got more air time than I wanted...I came about 9'' out of my seat..practically stood up!!!:scared1:
On another note...if you have any bags with you, be sure to attach them to you somehow. I had a large Disney shopping bag once. I had completely forgotten about it. Got on, strapped in. As we plummeted down on the first huge drop, my shopping bag floated right past my head!!! Thank heaven I had it over my wrist...otherwise who knows where it would have ended up!!!

Yeah, were I a single guy at WDW I would ride ToT was much as possible, angling to sit next to any single lady that struck my interest. The likelihood of her grabbing my arm is extremely high and it would be a great icebreaker :)

I'm not sure the ride really drops faster than gravity so most of the sensation of being lifted up comes from the very initial drop, I think most people push themselves up more than anything :)

If your seat belt broke, I think you would go more than 2". The ceiling might be an exageration but the point I was making is you would not be propelled out the front. The ride is actually pulling the car down, it's not a freefall, so you actually become weightless.

My mom forced me on it last time (and she's 60...) so I thought it couldn't be too bad. It was terrifying... Everytime we dropped, I rose about 4 inches off the seat. The photo at the end, I was way way above everyone else. I was in the back row, on the far right side. My mom still laughs at how hard I was screaming. I'm sure the other riders in the car didn't think it was so funny seeing as I got many "looks". :confused3

Unfortunately almost every time I try this I get the really diligent CM's who check everyone and make sure nothing is between you and the restraint. Tight, tight, tight. Sigh.

A few thoughts.....back a few years (maybe 5 or so) I succumbed to peer pressure and got back on ToT..had a really nasty drop sequence a few years before and was too chicken to go back on. Well, as the ride ended, I said to one of my companions...a guy of about 50....'I am so glad those handles were there'..his comment??? 'Ah, that wasn't a handle honey'. Yes, he was kidding...at least I hope he was.

As far as those drops go...you aren't falling or dropping. You are being pulled down by the hydrolics. It is faster than mere gravity would allow. I have been pulled about 9'' out of my seat. And no, I didn't 'stand up'...I just tried to get away with not fastening my seat belt tightly enough and got a huge surprise.
Initial drop??? There is no 'initial' drop. The drop sequence changes every time....you get a new ride every time you get on. So, you may get 3 nasty 'drops' or you may just get a few small ones. No way to tell.

But I will say again....my Disney shopping bag went sailing past my face one time. If I hadn't had my arm shoved through the bag handle, there's no telling where it would have ended up!!! Yes, the 'drop' was that good!!!

I love TOT, all the details are amazing, about the seat belt, I have never had a problem feeling unsecure.

Even though I'm securely belted in, I grab on to those bars and don't let go! Love the little "lift" you get on the drops. Really and truly a fantastic ride and a one-of-a-kind experience IMHO.

Have fun!
