My wife absolutely hated TOT at DL. My son and I want to ride the WDW version, and know that there is no way we will get mom on it(we wouldn"t want to if she hated it). How far can she go in line before she takes the "No thanks" exit. Can she get all the way to the loading? and then meet us in the gift shoppe? She really liked the set up...and all the stuff before...it was just the elevator that got her. So can she go in line with us and just say "No thanks"?
How does that work?
(four days before pop...first wdw trip :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

There is an elevator at the very end that people who change their minds can take. So she can stay with you all the way til you get on!

I might need this elevator also. Do you miss much of the ride if you take the "sissy" elevator down? And if I am brave enough to take the ride - how many times does it drop you? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

You betcha there's a chicken exit! My sister had to use it a few years ago. The only problem was she sat down on a bench just at the exit of the actual ride and a CM came over to her and taped a "Do Not Disturb" sign on her shirt. :rotfl:

Guess that'll teach her to chicken out next time. :p

LOL Have fun on your WDW visit!!

.

ive used the "no thanks" exit on tot before and you can go completely through the line right up to where you board the ride, just tell the cm you dont want to ride and theyll take you down a regular elevator and lead you out to the area where people coming off the ride walk out of :)

It's definitely worth it for her to wait and take the "chicken run", the theming is just gorgeous and shouldn't be missed. My DM rode once, now hates it, but goofy lady likes to walk through the building just to see it and chicken out every time now!

I remember that chicken exit. My son was afraid to ride when he was 7. I went with him as we were escorted to that elevator door. The guy taking us there had him pretty worried that it was one of the ride elevators. You see, the way the commercial had advertised it (back in 99) and the way the sign at the entrance of WDW advertises it, it appears to be a stand up attraction. SO, going into this elevator and standing, he thought the guy had tricked him. That guy was a hoot. Still faced and the whole nine yards. :teeth:

1. If you take the "Chicken exit", you miss ALL of the ride.
(That's the point of taking the exit... no riding). But you do get to see the pre-show and stand in the queue.

2. The ride is a "random program" (done by the computer) so each "ride" consists of a different number of "events" (drops, audio effects, visual effects, physical effects, stalls, wiggles, doors opening, etc.) revealed in different order and in different combinations. So there is no way to know WHICH version of the ride you will experience each time you go.
This is a GREAT attraction!

May I say - take the ride! think about it - how bad of a real drop can it be if the seats are benches, and there's only a bar holding the people in? Yes, your dooper might lift from the seat, :Pinkbounc yes you might be blinded when the outside doors open :sunny: - but you will not fall out, you will not have anything but a racing heart  from knowing you've done this. You can hold the bar for dear life, and still have a great time. It's fun! :thumbsup2 and you can tell your grandkids about it!

My dh uses that exit. He rode the ride once and said he never will again. He said since childhood he's had a reoccuring nightmare about being in an elevator and it breaks -- the ride is a nightmare come true for him.

You can stay in the line until the actual loading of the elevators. You can still see the inside of Tower, see the film in the library, and see the basement.

When DD chickened out at age 8, they gave her a bell-hop costume and had her "welcome" the "tourists" back from their ride. It was really cute.

I love ToT ride, but not the drops. However this doesn't stop me from riding it. Maybe it's the dread :scared1: of the drops that keeps me coming back. My DD loves the drops, but not the ride part. So I guess to each their own.

2 things to note:
1 - they changed the lap bars to seat belts now for the ToT at WDW. This was done a few years back and provide a bit more on the airtime thrill.
2 - the elevators are actually pushed up and down, so it is all completely controlled.

Either way, I can't wait to get there in Dec and ride this and all the other thrill rides :yay:

They vary every time you ride. Some are small drops and some are larger. You can drop anywhere from 6-10 times, but they will vary in height. I haven't found that they make me nauseous, but just nervous butterflies. By then I'm primed up and we usually go for a second round.

Since we are veering away from the "no thanks" exit...I will take this opportunity to say thanks for all the golden advice/

Are the drops significant enough to make your stomach drop? :confused3

Worry about that feeling was what kept me from riding during our first trip - chickened out three times. On our next trip, I was tired of chickening out and decided I could at least live through it once. Now it is one of my very favorite attractions. I do admit that every time the elevator door closes, I'm like "WHAT WAS I THINKING!!??!?" But that is short lived. Soon I and my elevator-mates are happily laughing and screaming. It's very fun. Some of the drops are short - others a little longer. Because of "how" the "drops" are done, I've never felt that "stomach drop" feeling.

My next goal - riding with hands up :)

Collette

P.S. I am in my mid-fifties, if that helps anyone who is trying to decide about riding.

Hey Collette - I'm in my early fiftes and it's one of my favorites rides too!!! I never miss TOT and RR at MGM. Love them both!!!!!

Can't wait to try EE this fall!!!!!!!!!

TOT really is an awesome ride in that the actual "ride" is great, as is the theaming. The only way I would not ride something would be if it would make me "sick" I.E. anything that spins. TOT is all the build up, the excitement. If you havent gone, try it. LIke another poster said, what is the worst that could happen? I swear, Disney does such a good job playing with our psyche that the feeling you get isnt a "sick" stomach in the throat feeling, but an "OMG the elevator car is gonna pop out of the window" feeling. ;)

We went all the way to the top and my son wanted off and they were wonderful. He has since been on and enjoys the ride.

Okay, I think I must do this. However, there is no way that I will be lifting my arms up! I will be hanging on for dear life - white knuckled, the whole bit! LOL :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
