Tower of Terror - lapbelts vs. lapbars

Anyone else here think the ascent is scarier then the descent? Well, trust me both scare me, but the going up so fast bothers me more ... when I rode DR. Dooms at Universal the initial launch was terrible... ahhhhhhh... I thought I was going to fly through the harness and into space...lol! Still love TOT but man does it make me shake! Not sure which I prefer lapbelt or seltbelt... enjoyed having something to hold on to and now all we have are those hand grabs between the seats, the ride feels much more "open".

I am for seatbelts 110%. I am telling that is the best. i always asked for the one seatbelt one when they had the lapbars because I got the middle seat and I got the seatbelt. It is the best because you get awsome airtime, you feel weightless, and nothing to hold on too. It gives it the whole ToT feeling you know. I think now though you have your own individual seats unlike before with a bench and lapbar which poses a minor problem with overweight people, but it isn't too bad. I just love the ride. I like the beginning where you see the ghosts and everything. The effects are fantastic. This is a definite Disney original.

I haven't tried the seatbelts yet, but I can't imagine getting more airtime with them. As stated before, if you ride with someone bigger or heavier than you with the bar, you get pure airtime. I did witness many young children flopping about because the lapbar came nowhere close to their laps. Perhaps that's why it changed.

I remember my friend telling me that with the lap bar when she rode with her dad (who's a really big guy) the bar won't even come close to being down as far as she thought it should be. The lap belt eliminates that kind of problem. I did like being able to hold on better to the lap bar though. With the belt I crossed my arms and held on tight to the belt.

I am a very small person and I always end up sitting next to an entire family that is 3 times larger than me and used to be terrified with the lapbars which didn't come even remotely close to holding me in. I almost fell off a ride at a local theme park once (non Disneyrelated) due to lapbars not holding me in. And I can only imagine how scary it is for kids.

I'm glad they switched over to lapbelts so everyone of all sizes can have their own level of safety and security.

Yeah it really was a smart move on Disney's part. I guess the lapbar would just be easier to keep things moving. Pull down and off you go rather than everyone trying to find their buckle and then checking each one to make sure they are secure. Well I think it is worth it though. You sometimes I think ToT wants you to wait in line because early when the park opens I never see the second elevator going, only the one. Then it gets crowded and they finally decide to open it up.
