Tower of Terror going away?

I can't believe I hadn't heard of this before, but... Tower of Terror is being replaced with Guardians of the Galaxy? I think it'll be fun, but it looks like they're shutting it down right after Halloween. Any word on the schedules? We're there end of November/early December this year. I'm a little sad if we miss it, my brother hasn't been to the park yet, and my kids love singing the "ding ding dong dong" Twilight Zone song.

I'm bummed about it, too. It's honestly one of my favorite rides. I don't know why they think it's a good idea to replace it with Guardians of the Galaxy. And we'll be there in November, right after it probably closes. So sad.

I like TOT too. Why must they change it? It really doesn't fit the theme of that area. Why not add something in innovations instead?

There has been NO announcement of this by Disney. This is just a rumor (at this point). DCA is suppose to be the "marvel" park and the area BEHIND ToT was rumored to be where this expansion is to happen but I wouldn't expect anything until well after Star Wars Land opens.

Unless it has to do with paying CBS for the rights to Twilight Zone , and being able to promote their own Marvel franchise instead

I thought it had more to do with promoting the new GOTG movie. Hmm.

I could see an overlay happening, superhero themed or otherwise. But, I think the current theme works really well for the attraction. I don't see any attempt to have some kind of story happen during the ride working, and I don't see a Marvel theme being as good if it's primarily a video before the ride and the 2 quick flashes you get before the drop sequence on ToT now.

That's entirely different. There's so much torn up in that park right now they can't afford to have another attraction down right now.

But I'm not buying the story about the rights either. I can't imagine after all this time that the rights are worth much. CBS should be paying Disney for keeping their series in the popular lexicon.

The current rumor is that GotG is taking over Ellen's Energy Adventure instead of ToT at WDW.

Fortunately for Florida, the powers that be in Orlando dragged their feet hard enough that the Guardians plans there got moved to Epcot.

I dont think it will happened at DL at least until after Halloween time. Ghosts in the Tower of Terror were specifically mentioned as being a part of halloween time in the disneyland press release about halloween time.

It's a rumor until Disney makes an announcement. You may believe the source of the rumor, but even if Disney is/was planning to do this they are also prone to changing their minds. There have been other "for sures" that have not come to be. I.E. Monster's Inc. Mini Land with Door Coaster. And the CERTAINTY that Star Wars Land was going in Tomorrowland.

If this is really happening, I want to know. It's my favorite attraction. And my 8 year old daughter's favorite too. We'd be devastated to see ToT go away.
