Tower of Terror 13K & 6.5K Race Website Link

Well if there is only going to be one medal then maybe I won't bust my hump and go for the 13K. :teeth: being that I am kind of a first time runner. Besides I should have extra time to finish the 6.5K from what I was told today :teeth:

Nancy: If the pace requirements are as some people are stating, I will try to get John switched to the 6.5K. I wish they had posted this info when they began accepting registrations.
As for the busses, I am certain Disney will provide transportation back to all the Disney resorts. It is afterall, a Disney sponsored event and there will be thousands of people there (participants and guests). they can't just leave people stranded. We are staying at BWV using points on Friday and Saturday and are waitlisted for Thursday night. If that doesn't come through we'll probably just stay at the Swan/Dolphin. Where are you staying and will you be on the meal plan? Boys with you? We could probably get OKW for that one evening, but it would be a hassle with the luggage. If we stay at S/D we can just walk it over.

Speaking of Swan/Dolphin, is one preferrable to the other?

I have no idea where I am staying yet. I wouldn't mind the Dolphin/Swan as I can get a nurse discount but they don't have Magical Express. Erik and GF are with us 10/21-10/26, they fly back on Friday. I only have a 1BR at OKW as I would offer a room to you for Thursday. Are you getting the meal plan? I figure after already being there for over a week, I will be full and the meal plan might be a waste. So many decisions. I wrote a long reply to you on the other board but I guess it is down. Will send you either an email or pm later.

Since everyone is starting at the same time and getting the same medal, I hope that you can switch John over. Otherwise, does anyone know if it is ok to just complete the 6.5K course even though you registered for the 13K and still get a medal.

Nancy

I would imagine that it would be ok to "drop down" to the 6.5K from the 13K. If you get the same medal, they start and finish in the same place, they aren't going to care. If it is an out and back, what's to stop someone from just turning around anywhere on the course. I say someone do that at the marathon on the out and back section on the way to WWS:eek:

I just received an email from Disney. It included a forwarded email from EMMI that stated "The pacing requirements for both races is the same – 15 minute per mile pace."

So that looks to be the bad news:sad2:

This might change what race I do:confused3

Why then does one cost $40 and the other $65? Seems strange to me!

The race is twice as long:laughing:

All races charge according to distance. I RD and I charge according to if it is a 30K, 50K, 50M.

Robert I promise to have you laughing so hard at my stupid stories and jokes that you will not notice the distance.

Dave:)

Of course the medal is going to be.. the Tower of Terror! :woohoo: I'm afraid that since this is an anniversary run, it will not be included in the future, and that's why the talk of same medal for both races. The fees for the 5K at Minnie are only $25 and you get a metal medal ( ), so this should be a good medal. Although, the marathon weekend 5K is the plastic one..hmmmmm.:confused3 Hey, we get a MEDAL and a GLOW IN THE DARK SHIRT as well as run in MGM at night..I'm happy!!:rotfl: Now, to figure out when and how much to EAT that day...

Hmmm....due to all this new info on the medals being the same and all, I think I will wait to register. Seems strange to me that they would give the same one. Have they ever done that before?

Darlin it ain't the medal it's the memory. Mine will be solid gold and the friends I have a chance to share it with will forever be part of that memory.

Dave:hippie:

Amen to that, Dave. :thumbsup2

I was thinking some of the extra cost for these races covered the after party. party: That might take away from the metal medals.

I would guess the medal would be made out of medal. I know the Minnie will be for the 15K so 13K should be the same.

I can attest from being an RD, the cost of 2 different medals with unknown quantities can really add up. Much easier to design and produce 1 medal.

I didn't know they were doing a 6.5K too! This llooks very possible for us! I'm really excited because I am a night person and there aren't all that many night races - especially at WDW!!

Now for the drawback. My knees have been absolutely awful lately. That's why I haven't been around much. Simply walking across the room has been painful, never mind walking any distance. I have been back to my ortho and he wanted to try another round of the Hylagan injections that I did last year and got some pretty good relief. I had my second of 3 rounds of injections today. My first round of Hylagan lasted about a year, so hopefully October will be great timing for me to do another race. I will be doing the 6.5K, but I want to wait to sign up at least until I finish the last round of injections and see how well they work this time. Hopefully this is going to work! I really want to come out & play!

I was told on the phone today that they will give the 6.5K participants more time because of the same start time and being open to all ages. What I was told - in person on the phone - is that the 6.5K participants will have until the 13K people are done.

So if anyone wants to confirm this, being that Disney is so accurate with their information dispensing at times :rolleyes1

But at least now we have 2 reports of it being a 15 minute mile.

I think I have decided to do the 6.5K so my oldest can join me, which is what he really wants to do. That way neither of us are running alone and such. Besides for my first race . . . well 4 miles might be enough ;)

I didn't know if I should start a new thread for this or not. So, here goes.

The DW and I are planning to do Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on thd 26th, and I was thinking about getting dinner reservations at the Liberty Tree Tavern around 1700 hours that day.

If you would like to join us let me know. I'll make the ADR later this month.

Does anyone know if there's a maximum number of diners allowed for an ADR, or does it depend on the restaurant?

Vic - the family has been polled and it looks like we'll be doing MNSSHP on Thursday the 25th and dinner at Chef Mickey's before the party. With the restaurant being along the monorail I figure it should be pretty convenient..?? Anyhow, thanks for the invite, but it looks like we'll be partying on Thursday instead.

As for the 15 min/mi pace, my mom will be walking the 13K. Hopefully she won't have too many issues being a bit faster, but it would be nice to have that extra 1 min buffer built in. I can't wait to see a map, and yes, hopefully the medal will have "inaugural" on it somewhere!

Okey dokey.

Hi all,

I knew I had the extend my trip once they announced this race. I did the goofy this year and might be doing the minnie....but I am so excited for a night run through MGM!!!

Looking forward to spending more time on the boards.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Kelly

Welcome aboard;)

ToT will be a kick in the pants:cool1: Congrats on the Goofy and maybe we will see you in a couple of weeks at Minnie!
