Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

wilkeliza and PrincessV, thx a mint for the replies and detailed info...very much appreciated! :thumbsup2 I was concerned about my post-race nutrition too but sounds like nothing to worry about at all! :goodvibes

It will be my first trip to the World at that time of year...any one else doing MNSSHP on Sunday solo?

Want to participate in the ToT run for 2015. What month does the registration open? Want to mark my calendar!

Not sure about 2015 but this year I signed up "late" (75% sold out) in March...good luck!

cheers,
:goodvibes

I am planning on doing MNSSHP solo on Friday and Halloweem Horror Nughts solo on Sunday.

Don't forget there is the picture stop too. That seems to take me a bit. First in waiting for those in front of me to be done and then for me to figure out what to do with everything I am holding. :rotfl:

So happy to have found y'all and I just finished catching up on this thread - yes, all 73 pages worth! :rotfl2: Can you tell I'm just a lil excited to do my first rD event?! :cool1:

Thx a mint for all the fab info and tips - loved seeing the pic of the medals! :thumbsup2

Best of luck to all of with ailments hindering your training...sending pixie dust for quick recoveries! pixiedust:

For those who have run the ToT before, how long did it take after you crossed the finish line to retrieve your stuff from bag check?

cheers,
:)

My first rD event too!

and questions asked to make sure you're okay (I've only seen this go down at TOT - they want those water/Powerade bottles OPEN and to see you drinking, by golly!),/QUOTE]

No one talked to me, nor did anyone get twitchy that I wasn't drinking their water. (dasani is not for my belly)

And I saw a ton of people stopped and laying around on the, hmm, grass? somewhere well before we got back into the park. It's possible that was around bag check, not sure at all. I have bad night vision and I was alone and exhausted and just wiped out (would have been a prime candidate for someone to ask how I was doing, but nope!) and wasn't tracking too well as to what was where or what was happening when...

But I do remember all those people laying and sitting off to the side.

Maybe it's b/c I ran so slowly and by the time I finished they didn't care about us moving along?

I don't remember anyone forcing me to drink my bottles of water and Powerade after TOT but did after the full marathon, especially the very warm 2013 race. After TOT it seemed like half the people after finishing the race were sitting where ever they could find a spot,it was a very humid race that wiped people out.

No one forced me to drink. I am a back of the packer (ran 14min/mil played my way to a 15:55 min/mike time) so maybe they didn't care by then?

Just paid off the rest of the ToT weekend and booked my Disney Magical Express. Park tickets ordered and just a few more days until I can book my FastPass+.

Sweeeeeeeeet.

LOL, see I don't even bother with the finisher pics - I only have to figure out where to go to avoid them!

Weird - maybe I just pulled the overzealous bottle lady?! She was HARDCORE, I tell ya! "RUNNERS, get those bottles open - we want to see you dirnking NOW!" I literally had to argue with her that I'm Floridian, acclimated, and plenty hydrated, TYVM.

And I saw a ton of people stopped and laying around on the, hmm, grass? somewhere well before we got back into the park.
Yep, that was just past the stage where we got our bags, off to the left. A big expanse of Indy blacktop with some grassy knolls around it. It was weird over there... I pulled over to change my shoes, and took a minute or two to drink some Nuun and eat a Clif bar, so I had a chance to look around me - it felt like a triage station: eerily quiet, so many people just laying there, not moving much, not talking. I kept expecting to see a team of medics descend and start asking folks if there were okay!

I know there was a race... I assume it was ToT that we were not let through without taking the lid off of our water bottles. Maybe it was phm 2013?

I remember this from last year. It was before you even got back into the parks.

Maybe it's b/c I ran so slowly and by the time I finished they didn't care about us moving along?

I am sure they cared ;) However maybe it did have to do with finish time. Perhaps since those who finished earlier were "ok" maybe they assumed everyone was?

I too could have sworn that they told us that we HAD to open our water. It may have been phm 2013 though that I am remembering like that.

No one forced me to drink. I am a back of the packer (ran 14min/mil played my way to a 15:55 min/mike time) so maybe they didn't care by then?

I mentioned above already, but I wonder if it was just assumed that since those in the front were ok that they rest were too? It is always interesting how different an experience people can have based on where they are in the pack.

LOL, see I don't even bother with the finisher pics - I only have to figure out where to go to avoid them!

:rotfl: Wait, we can avoid them? :lmao: I just go where I am funneled to. "go here" ok, sure. "go there" ok...there I go.

I really remember this too. It was a lady that I remember too yelling at people and I too remember those words "runners, get those bottles open" (or something very similar. Is it possible this was phm 2013 and not ToT? I am confused cause I thought it was ToT. Not to be too nosey, but what time did you finish? I half wonder if you and I were near each other and maybe we were the only ones seeing this very concerned lady.

I saw people laying on the ground before I even got back into the park. Once I got my back I wasn't paying to close attention to what others were doing since I was back with my friends who had been waiting for me and cheering me on.

If anyone ran this race as Maleficent last year and has some horns they'd like to part with, please let me know. Thanks!

DD and I are registered for the TOT 5K run and DS the 10 miler. Initially DH didn't want to run the 5K with us so we did't register him. Now he wants to run but it is full. I know that he could find a group and run, but I wasn't sure what groups he could register with? Any thoughts or help appreciated! Thanks!

Nevermind! I found it!

Power to you! I can't even do Haunted Mansion as I think it'll be too scary for me - I'd be dead at HHN! :faint:

My first rD event too!

:thumbsup2

I saw some recently as DMR rewards - I was surprised at how "affordable" they seemed.

Anyone else going in costume? I think I'm going as a skeleton-type thing - nothing fancy but fun. :joker: Thinking of wearing face paint but unsure if it'll run in the heat. Anyone with experience doing it? :confused3

Hope everyone's training is going well!

cheers,
:)

I'm running into so much bad luck with this race. I run with a compression knee sleeve because I've had surgery and going more than a couple miles without the support causes a lot of problems, but I had to order a new one and it's backordered in my size! I hope it doesn't mess with my training too bad! My friend and I are supposed to fly out Thursday night and do MNSSHP Friday night, but my boss won't give me a straight answer about getting Friday off. I love my job, but not if it comes between me and Disney! :rotfl2:

I'm running as Kim Possible! I already have the red hair and the rest is pretty easy. I would steer clear of the face paint. Even if you have a great makeup setting product that will keep it from running you'll probably be twice as hot under it! But that's the opinion of someone who has never run with face paint on ;)

Anyone know what this means, from the course description? "Elevating the fun even more this year are a series of four gentle slopes dotting the course, and timing mats that let your friends and family track your progress."
The course description sounds the same in years past, but it's odd that they say that the gentle slopes elevate the fun more this year.
