Where do you stand?

I've never stayed at a Disney resort, and I've never have gotten a towel animal at any hotel that I have stayed at. If I got a towel animal I certainly would not steal one. I may ask the hotel manager if I could take one home, but I would not steal-the towel is hotel property. Don't some WDW hotels offer guests a class on how to make them? :confused3 I recall seeing a picture of it on another thread.

heh, we get them all the time!

My sister has taken one, and still has it put together! lol
We leave them now though :)

I have only received one and I kept it. It is a cute little puppy and it sits on a shelf with my other Disney souviners. I don't understand all the comments on stealing. I don't consider taking towel animals stealing when the mousekeeper tells you it is a gift to take home. How is that stealing?

We've gotten them, in fact, we got one each night we were at the Poly last March.....but, we've never taken them home. I take a pic of each one with my camera and my cell phone (I add it to my collection of disney pics that I use as my phone wallpaper when I'm missing disney.)

Is there a magic trick to getting them all the time? :rotfl:
Are you extra good tippers or something else? Or just pure coincident?

We were told that they were gifts and that we were welcome to take them home with us. So we've taken them all home, except for the ones that were too big or that were not really manageable, such as the tri-circle Mickey or the 6 foot tall towel "man" that was laying on our bed last trip.

Most of the towel animals we've taken home have ended up with our grand-nieces, but we do still have a few.

OK, you have me curious! Did you take pictures by chance? If so, please share with us! I bet the "towel man" was pretty cool to see! Bless their (Mousekkepers) hearts, can you imagine how much time it takes to make these TA, ecspecially the elaborate or large ones? WOW! :goodvibes

We had a delightful housekeeper at Coronado Springs who practically begged us to take them. I took a little duck because I didn't have room for the others (including a doll with a hula skirt and a lei!)

We tipped her $5/day with three adults in the room, and she was extremely grateful! I felt bad because it was clear she didn't get tipped often. I think we would have received the towel animals even without the tips, though. I wish I had written down her name so I could contact Disney and tell them what a gem she is. Her name was unusual, and unfortunately I forgot it.

During our stay at POFQ we didn't get any towel animals, and we tipped there, too.

I think receiving towel animals mostly depends on if the housekeepers have the time and interest to make them.

Personally I've always thought the Disney ones were a little weird because they had stickers and pipe cleaners in 'em.

I took a few cruises in which the cabin stewards made really elaborate towel animals that were truly origami works of art - no pipe cleaners. They were meant to be appreciated, and then used --- like the folded cloth napkins in a fancy restaurant.

Maybe that's the reason I never considered keeping towel animals at Disney.

WOW ~ Out of 218 Dismembers who voted on the poll so far, 25 never have received any TA while staying at the WDW Resorts. :sad2:

At SSR we only received a couple during our 2007 trip, but they were nice little surprises to find! We also had our Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head's creatively displayed, which was fun to see! :goodvibes

It would be nice if every room got at least one TA in their room, they just seem to go a long nicely with the "magical feel" of WDW! :wizard: I know that it is by no means mandatory, and that Mousekeeping does it on their own time, I just think it would be awesome!

On our first two trips we left the towle animals in the room. We just enjoyed them on our stay, never occured to me to take them home. On our last stay at Poly the CM gave DD and DS one to keep so we took them home. At Pop last month we got a tiny towel bunny and DD brought it home. I probably would have made her leave it but she named it and it has a place on her bed now. Yes I agree with some that they are a little gross when you think about it. The kids love them though.

Count me in as another who hadn't a clue you could take them with you. We just assumed that Mousekeeping would take them after we checked out and spread some Disney magic to another guest. I know we were delighted to get them, so hopefully by us leaving them behind, another family also got a happy surprise one day when they returned from the parks.

We stayed at POR in January, and in addition to the Mickey head on the bed (do you even count that as a towel animal, or are they in every room?), we were given 3 different towel animals by Mousekeeping....about one every other day.

We have stayed onsite twice, left HUGE tips ($10-15) every day, chatted with mousekeepers and NEVER got even one little face cloth. We are neat and polite.

Why? No idea.

We were at Port Orleans and Boardwalk.

We've gotten towel animals on both of our most recent trips, but I just don't care. You should have a poll choice for that - I've gotten towel animals but don't give a fig either way.

[My DH actually joked about using the towel bunny to wash up your privates or underarms after a long day at the park and making it a "stink bunny"]

On my cruise it was an everyday thing to get one (they'd take the old one and put a new one out) but they were not for taking so I took a picture. At Disney we only had the one and it was the same one as everyone had in their window on my row. My mom really liked it so I took it as a surprise for her. It's sitting on her desk at work. I did not get a bill for it after so I'm thinking that it's not like leaving the hotel with the towels off the rack.

We've gotten the towel animals at the resorts and on DCL and never had an urge to take them. They are cute, but I know it would just be another thing to sit and collect dust once we got home...and I hate dusting as it is! :rotfl: We take pics of the towel animals and then leave them behind.

I've never even thought about bringing any home. The ones I've had were made out of perfectly good towels, and wouldn't seem any different to me than just taking the towels off the rack and sticking them in my suitcase. I know there are some people out there who wouldn't think twice about doing that either.

If you really like towel animals, there are books out there on how to make them yourself. I would get the book and some great colored towels, and make your own!

:thumbsup2

But if the housekeeper told you that it was ok to take them home, it's ok with me. I would still probably leave them there unless it was made by my DD.

Because it is totally up to the mousekeeper if they leave them or not. Some do, some don't. I think sometimes it also depends on how much time they have, and doesn't seem to be related to tip as we always tip and we don't always get towel animals. At Pop last time we had a new one in our room every single day. At FQ in October we had a couple small ducklings a couple days, then the last day I saw they were not ducklings at all when two great big beautiful swans showed up, complete with plastic lake, for the baby ducklings, er...swans. We loved them! Didn't bring them home (where would I put them anyway and the next people probably enjoyed them as much as we did), but I left a note for the mousekeeper on her tip envelope telling her what a nice bit of pixiedust they were to brighten our last night there. We have also had trips where we got none at all.
