Towel Animals thread - a hoot! Anyone ever get a towel animal at DVC

Nope, never got a "DVC" towel animal. ( but if I do, I can keep it, right? )

In the past we have had "towel animals" in our staterooms while on a Disney Cruise. This year when our family checked into an OKW Grand Villa there were "towel animals" around. Our six year old granddaughter said, "Nana, the towel guy from the cruise is here!"

We had a swan family of towel animals at Old Key West this Spring Break!

There was a bird (maybe a swan) on the foyer table when we arrived at our 2 bedroom at BCV.

No jarestel, you cannot keep them! Those towels are part of your allotment of towels, just done up to look like animals. It is hard to pull them apart to use them though. The kids had us washing towels so we could keep the "towel animals" until the very end of the vacation and use them last.

Ah, the towel allotment! Now I understand! (:>)

I just read the aforementioned thread and was shocked to see the WDW policy on this. If you are staying at a WDW resort, other than the DVC resorts, Disney pays for the replacement of those towels and washcloths. If you are staying at a DVC resort, your maintenance fees are paying for those cute little animals that are gathering dust in people's homes!!!

Many hotels will send you a bill if they find you've absconded with their towels.

As for the towel animals, if you like them there are several ways to encourage their appearance in our rooms:

1) E-mail MS and Mousekeeping and tell them how much you liked the towel animals. Make it personal ("My 5-year old daughter wants to come back next year because they made her so happy...")

2) At the resort, make a point of mentioning how much you like them to the front desk.

3) At the resort, pick up the phone, call Mousekeeping, and compliment them.

4) Leave a little extra tip! I'm sure that the housekeepers think of these things as tip-magnets. Prove them right and give them the incentive to take the extra couple of minutes in each room.
:)

If they are tip magnets that explains why they seem to be rare in DVC. The maid only hits your room twice (on average).

We get them almost daily in our room at VB. (we usually pay for daily housekeeping)

We even got them daily when we stayed on cash.

I've never had animals at OKW, but have had some floral/fan designs that were quite nice.

But you better believe that the regular WDW resorts expect some of those towel animals to disappear and it is adjusted into the rental cost of the room, just as it would be added to DVC dues.

We have had towel animals at OKW both of the last two trips. Just small little ducks and things. I certainly didn't take them home though! I left them for the next guest to enjoy.

We had them at OKW and BC and never would I have considered taking them home anymore than I would take the regular towels.

We got our first towel animals ever during our stay at OKW this past March. We loved them and did not take any home. I did take at least a half a roll of film of them.
We got ducks, an owl (my friend insists that the mousekeeper knew that she is an owl lover), a swan and something else that I can't recall.
I wouldn't take them home the cost to replace the towels would raise my dues if everyone takes them home.::yes::

Never at a DVC resort....it would really be a surprise.

We did stay at AKL on points and returned to a surprise. It wasn't a towel animal, but one of the housekeepers had taken our DS's Bob The Builder stuffed animal pillow (about 2' tall) and left it wrapped up in toilet paper in the bathroom. It was hilarious to see -- we have several pictures of him. Very cute.

Same trip, same hotel, must have been the same housekeeper, because the next night, we returned to find "Bob" all tucked in for the night -- snug as a bug, sleeping in the bunk with a stuffed Mickey as a cuddly.

Just something a bit different to play with I guess. And, we did tip extra for the special touches.

Last time we went to Vero Beach the 1st day we were there my 3 little ones, ages 2, 4 and 6 struck up a conversation w/ the housekeeper, outside of our unit as she was motoring down the hall and every day after that we had more towel animals than we could have imagined, more than even the ones we had just had previously on the DCL. At VB we had monkeys, a dolphin, alligator, turtle, swan, crab and octopus, and others, it was awesome, she interacted great w/ our kids and she recieved a very good tip at the end of our stay! She was awesome and just another reason I love to call this one of my 2 home resorts!!:earseek:
